All Anthology entries are due on Monday, January 5, 2026.
'The Journey'
The purpose of the Southern Lakes Anthology is to provide talented writers, poets, artists, and cartoonists in Grades 3-8 in the School District of Watertown an opportunity to publish their original work. Can you think of a creative way to explore/represent this year's theme? Entries can be submitted in the following categories:
prose (a real or fictional story)
expository/informative writing (an essay/report with factual information)
poetry
illustrated writing (poetry or story with art woven throughout)
cartoon
art
Pay special attention to the Category Rules tab above, as entries that do not follow the rules for their category may be disqualified. Rubrics used for judging are also posted in their own tab.

Elementary Buildings: Grades 3-5 teachers, Mrs. Pochop/Mrs. Barta/Mrs. Jensen (Advanced Learning Teacher), Librarians, Art Teachers
Middle School: ELA Teachers, Art Teacher, AVID Teacher, School Counselors, Library
To submit an entry, please complete the following tasks no later than Monday, January 5, 2026:
Fill out this Southern Lakes Anthology Student Entry Form. Print it off or pick it up from a resource folder.
Paperclip your Student Entry Form to your entry. Place it in any resource folder.
For prose, expository writing, poetry, and illustrated writing entries, ALSO ELECTRONICALLY SHARE your entry (via Google Docs) to the anthology committee: anthology@mywusd.org
To clarify: You should have a paper version with your Student Entry Form turned into a resource folder AND an electronic version of the text of your entry shared with anthology@mywusd.org.
Other important notes:
All entries are due by the end of the day on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Students ARE allowed to submit more than one entry.
For an illustrated writing entry, students are allowed to collaborate with another student from a different class who is in the same grade as long as they are in the Watertown Unified School District.
Communication from the Anthology Committee will be done through email at anthology@mywusd.org, so please be sure to check it regularly for updates.
