About the Teacher

Dear Students and Parents,

My name is Jennifer Stern, and I've been an elementary school teacher for 22 years: the first eight in 1st grade, the next eight in 4th grade, five years of teaching 5th grade here at Welby Way, and now I'm thrilled to be back in 4th grade. Other than getting the opportunity to work with great students every year, there are a lot of other things I love about being an elementary school teacher. At the top of the list is the variety of subjects I get to teach: reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, p.e...and MORE! There's never a dull moment in our day because the sky's the limit. I also really enjoy the creative aspect of my job, and I love to see my students show creativity and originality in all that they do.

Outside of school I enjoy athletic activities. Taking classes at the gym, yoga, and hiking are just some of my favorite pastimes. A few summers ago I even hiked Mt. Whitney, which was an adventure I will never forget. I've recently started fostering dogs and helping them find their forever homes. It has been such an amazing experience helping dogs go from the shelter to a loving home.

I hope you enjoy using this website. I've created it primarily to help facilitate communication between home and school. Please check back in often to stay updated on things that are happening in our classroom. You may need to download Adobe Reader or another program that allows you to read PDF's, if your computer does not already have one.

Parent/Teacher communication is absolutely vital to the success of each student. Here are several ways to get in touch with me:

  • Contacting me through the Remind App is the quickest way to get a hold of me.
  • If you just have a “quick question,” please write it in a note and give it to your child to

give to me.

  • You can email me at jstern1@lausd.net
  • You can set up an appointment for a face-to-face or phone conference. I am available most mornings as early as 7:00 a.m., but due to meetings and other school responsibilities, I’m a bit harder to get a hold of in the afternoon. Because I want to be able to give you my full time and attention, I urge you to set up an appointment. That will ensure my availability to you and only you.

I look forward to working with all of you and to a terrific year!
