Venue Guidance Assistant using Augmented Reality

Developed for Deaf people

Project Abstract

This project aims to create a venue guidance system that uses Augmented Reality (AR) to help Deaf people navigate from point A to point B, using sign language videos embedded in an AR marker. The system will be an android mobile application that will present the Deaf person with a set of AR markers that will guide them from the entry point in a building or structure to the destination using an affordable Android mobile phone. The software packages, Unity and Vuforia will be used to develop the AR phone-based application. Tygerberg Hospital will be used as a case study to evaluate the concept proposed in this research project .

Procedures include:

Term 1 : Project Analysis

Examining both the fundamental principles and the project needs

Term 3: Project Implementation

Implementing the previously created project design and prototype

Term 2: Project Design and Prototype

To design and build a prototype based on the project analysis

Term 4: Project Testing

Putting the prototype to the test and assessing the findings
