The SmartCity AR project aims to create an Augmented Reality (AR)-based urban planning tool to enhance the visualization and analysis of infrastructure, transport hubs, and pedestrian-friendly routes in Cape Town's Foreshore Freeway Precinct. The tool will allow users to compare sustainable vs. unsustainable planning scenarios, explore transport hubs, and visualize pedestrian-friendly routes to address issues like traffic congestion, inefficient land use, and inadequate pedestrian access.

Outcomes
Improved urban planning by providing users with an immersive, interactive tool to understand infrastructure interactions.
Enhanced decision-making by comparing different planning strategies for better sustainability, traffic flow, and pedestrian access.
Key Features
City Layout Visualization: Display and interact with 3D city models to simulate different planning scenarios.
Scenario Simulation: Visualize changes like pedestrian-friendly spaces, optimized public transport routes, and green corridors.
Sustainability Comparison: Toggle between sustainable and unsustainable planning scenarios to assess environmental and mobility impacts..
Data Layer Toggle: Switch between traffic, pedestrian movement, and infrastructure layers for enhanced analysis.
User Interactivity: Touch-based navigation, such as zooming, rotating the city model, and switching views.
Agile Development Approach: The project follows an iterative development cycle, with weekly milestones for refining core features and ensuring continous feedback.
Tools & Technologies
Unity: Used for building and rendering 3D AR models.
Visual Studio: Integrated development environment for coding and debugging.
Android Studio: For testing AR functionality on Android devices.
GitHub: Version control for collaboration.
Blender: For 3D asset creation.
Itch.io: Platform for publishing the APK for Android.
AR Foundation: Cross-platform AR development framework.
Photoshop: Used to design UI mockups, icons, and banners for the project website and mobile interface
