WHAT IS A DISCOURSE?
A DISCOURSE is a process of learning that requires students to be actively engaged. A discourse may involve a variety of learning opportunities that include:
Listening to a lecture
Thinking critically
Discussing (small group or whole class)
Taking notes
Analyzing a quote
Interpreting data
Watching a video clip
Being curious and asking questions
WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING A DISCOURSE?
Students are strongly encouraged to take notes during a DISCOURSE in any manner that suits them. Notes will not be collected, however one page of notes may be used on a Daily Quiz.
Often, a DISCOURSE includes a presentation, discussion, video or other activity that requires students to actively listen, engage, and participate in the lesson.
WHAT IF I’M ABSENT AND MISS A DISCOURSE?
Presentations cannot be repeated and slideshows will not be published online or handed out in any form. Class discussions, obviously, are not possible to duplicate. When a student is absent and misses a DISCOURSE they should copy notes from a classmate.
