Visual Imagery is a yearlong lecture and lab course, in which the students will explore, new and advanced visual skills for the Design, Visual & Media Arts Pathway CTE industry sector. Students will learn about advanced techniques to help develop a portfolio, using both studio equipment, digital cameras, and advanced technology.Students, in each unit, will develop their critical eye through Aesthetic Valuing responding to, analyzing, and making judgment about works in the visual arts. Students analyze, assess, and derive meaning from works of art, including their own, according to the elements of art, the principles of design, and aesthetic qualities.Students will use various types of principles and processes to create their own unique images. The vocabulary of visual arts will be taught along with the technical vocabulary necessary to understand photographic equipment and processing. Students will learn the historic and cultural aspects of photography.The goals of this specific course are to develop advanced digital artists and photographers by teaching a variety of skills and outcomes that will include not only traditional imaging projects however, advanced photojournalism and photo manipulation techniques. Students will produce a quality portfolio of work by the end of the school year. “Students will learn and practice leadership skills through collaboration, critical thinking, and self-led projects. Project based learning supports the development and application of leadership skills.” Students will utilize skills learned in Photography and Design and focus is on development of concepts and ideas as fundamental in further selection of media, materials, and photography techniques. It is in this spirit of exploration, experimentation, and risk-taking that students will become independent thinkers and artists.Students will develop technical skills within the Adobe software platforms, contribute to discussions involving the aesthetic qualities of photography respond and make judgments about artwork historical and current works of art. Students will learn how technology of photography connects to other areas of visual arts and leads to career possibilities. Students will develop a portfolio of photos to be used for assessments, promotion, and exhibition.
