About the Class and Goals:

Photography and Design I is a yearlong lecture and lab course in which the students will explore both color and black and white digital photography as a creative and expressive endeavor and digital aspects of photography techniques. Students will learn the technical information necessary to use traditional photography techniques and digital imagery, such as Adobe programs. Students will use multiple types of technology and methods of displaying their finished work. This course aligns with the fundamental skills for the Arts & Entertainment CTE industry sector.Students will use various types of principles and processes to create their own unique images. The vocabulary of visual arts will be taught along with the technical vocabulary necessary to understand photographic equipment and processing. Students will learn the historic and cultural aspects of photography.Students will learn the aesthetic qualities of photography respond and make judgments about artwork. Students will learn how technology of photography connects to other areas of visual arts and leads to career possibilities. Students will develop a portfolio of photos to be used for assessments, promotion, and exhibition.Students will utilize skills and understanding first introduced in Photography for greater experience in the expressive nature of the visual arts. Focus is on development of concepts and ideas as fundamental in further selection of media, materials, and photography techniques. It is in this spirit of exploration, experimentation, and risk-taking that students will become independent thinkers and artists.
