Who will get the vaccine?

The Government has identified prioritized groups comprising of those most at risk for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine was first offered to healthcare workers, frontline workers and population above 45 years of age. From May 1, vaccine will be given to everyone above 18 years of age.

▪️ How will the vaccine be given & how many doses?

It will be given as an injection intramuscularly, in the upper arm.

Two doses of the vaccine need to be taken by an individual to complete the vaccination schedule.

It is recommended that the 2nd dose of COVAXIN should be administered in the interval of 4 to 6 weeks from the date of 1st dose. For COVISHIELD the recommended interval is 4 to 8 weeks. You may choose the date of 2nd dose vaccination as per your convenience.

▪️ Will the vaccine be safe or there are side effect?

The safety of COVID Vaccine is scientifically proven. As with all vaccines, minor events such as mild to moderate fever, body pain and swelling at injection site, etc. may be expected following COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccine administrators are fully equipped to take care of these. The beneficiaries are requested to wait for 30 minutes post vaccination at the session site.

Note: Social distance and wearing masks are mandatory.

Can a person choose date and time of vaccination?

After registering though the Co-WIN Portal, you can choose your place of vaccination by searching with your pincode or District/State and the date and time will be provided via SMS on your registered mobile number. CoWIN allows you to register at any place.

▪️ Can person with active COVID infection be vaccinated?

Person with active symptom of COVID 19 infection may defer the vaccination for 4-8 weeks after recovery.

▪️ Can a pregnant lady or lactating mother or children be vaccinated?

Pregnant and lactating women have not been part of COVID 19 vaccine clinical trials so they should not be vaccinated as no data on its safety for them is yet available
