Here are four facts about breast cancer to raise awareness and
highlight the importance of regular breast exams:
It is the most common cancer in women (besides skin cancer).
In the United States, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Early detection is key to survival.
When breast cancer is found early, while it is still localized (has not spread outside the breast), the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.

Men can get breast cancer, too.
While rare, men account for about 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the U.S. They should also be aware of changes in their chest area.

A lump is not the only symptom.
While a new lump is the most common sign, other symptoms to look out for and report to a doctor include: a change in the size or shape of the breast, nipple discharge (other than milk), or a change in the skin texture like dimpling or redness.
