Boys and Girls Cross Country at MKMS
The following items need to be completed and turned in to front office or coaches before the first scheduled cross country meet, Wednesday, November 5th.
CROSS COUNTRY CONTRACT Print out or ask the coaches for a hard copy-Turn in to Coach Staber or Coach Simms
FHSAA Sports Physical -Turn in to front office. Sports physicals stay on file for 365 days from date of actual physical.
Emergency Card and Consent Waiver Turn in to front office
Consent for First-Aid in Skyward -Log in to Skyward and complete the Health Services form online.
This is a no cut sport. Any Mustang that signs up is on the team. However, all Mustangs must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
PRACTICES
Practices begin on Tuesday, 10/21. Practices are Tuesday and Thursday from dismissal until 5:15 PM. Please be at the school by 5:15 for pick up.
DIVISIONS
Cross country has two divisions (JV and Varsity). The JV course distance is 1.5 miles. Varsity course distance is 2.0 miles.
UNIFORM
Each participant will receive a Markham Woods Cross Country t-shirt (to keep) for competition after payment and paperwork completion. Participants must wear running shorts/sweats and tennis shoes/sneakers with laces. NO jeans or Crocs. If you do not have your MKMS cross country t-shirt, you will not run.
TRANSPORTATION
The team will take the bus together to the meet at Sylvan Lake Park (Markham Woods' home location) or to our away team school. The bus will leave around 4:00 PM. If you are coming to watch your Mustang, they may ride home with you. As the guardian, PLEASE check your student out with their coach. If you are not coming to watch your Mustang, the bus will bring them back to Markham Woods Middle School after the meet where you will be waiting to pick up your student. If a Mustang is left unchecked, the coaches are to search the area and notify authorities. Please be sure to check your Mustang out and keep us from this hassle.
MEET LOCATION
Home meets take place at Sylvan Lake Park-845 Lake Markham Road in Sanford. Away meets are at the away team school. Please see schedule at link above.
MEET TIMES
Race starts around 4:30
ATTENDANCE
All students are expected to be at all practices. Failure to show to practice may result in loss of participation at the meets. If your student is unable to attend a practice, coaches require notification prior to practice. If your student does not have a ride home from practice, please have them go home from school their normal way. If you are absent from school on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday; you are not eligible to participate in practice or the meet depending on the day on which you are absent.
