New landlord requirements now in force.


The Victorian Residential Tenancies Act has been updated and new rental regulations came into effect in Victoria on 29 March 2021.


What is required?

Licensed electricians and gasfitters must now complete and document safety checks of all electrical and gas appliances and installations in all rental properties.


Who is responsible?

Landlords.

As the landlord of your property you are responsible for organising licensed tradespeople to inspect and document Safety Checks in accordance with the new regulations.


When is this required?

From 29 March 2021.

Safety checks must be completed as soon as practical and reviewed every two years.

All your existing smoke alarms are tested according to the manufacturer’s warranty.


Replacement of faulty or expired smoke alarms $42.90.
