AVID at Trabuco Hills
AVID at Trabuco Hills
Here at Trabuco Hills, AVID is a growing program for students who possess the motivation and the raw ability to succeed in high school and college. The goal of our program is to provide a targeted group of these already-capable students with the guidance and support they need to succeed not only at Trabuco Hills, but beyond their high school careers. AVID methodologies focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading. Several benefits await prospective AVID students. AVID is a “class community” composed of peers, teachers and peer tutors geared towards encouraging academic and personal success. AVID teachers coach students through high school course selection, high stakes test preparation, and college applications. As an integral part of the program, AVID students are guided through the college selection and application process, and are expected to apply to and potentially attend a four-year college.

- AVID is designed for middle- to upper-middle academic students. These students have the potential for honors level and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework, but may need to develop the skills needed to be successful in those rigorous courses.
- AVID combines rigor with support that includes the student's individual determination and the support of teachers, administrators, fellow AVID students, their families, and AVID tutors.
- AVID students must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA throughout the school year.
WHAT AVID IS NOT
WHAT AVID IS NOT
- AVID is not a program for students at risk of not graduating.
- AVID is not for students who do not do any of their work, assigned or otherwise.
- AVID is not for the consistent D or F student.
- AVID is not for unmotivated students who do not have the individual determination needed for success.
