Drama 1 is a performance-based course designed for students who are looking for an intro to Theatre. Through games, improvisation, scene work, and creative projects, students will build confidence, collaboration, and communication skills while exploring the fundamentals of acting and stagecraft. Units include ensemble building, improvisation, pantomime, character development, script work, and an introduction to theatre history and design. Students will perform individually and in groups, learning stage vocabulary, performance etiquette, and the basics of storytelling on stage.
Drama 2 is a continuation of Drama 1, designed for students who have a basic foundation in theatre and want to advance their performance and production skills. Students will dive deeper into character development, script analysis, and scene work while exploring a wider variety of theatrical styles and genres. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, rehearsal techniques, and performance skills, with opportunities for both acting and technical theatre. Students will participate in group performances and projects that strengthen confidence, creativity, and ensemble work.
Drama 3, 4, and 5 is an advanced, production-based course for experienced theatre students who are ready to take on greater performance and technical responsibilities. The centerpiece of the class is participation in the Fall Play, with required after-school rehearsals and public performances. Students will refine their acting skills through script analysis, ensemble work, and advanced scene study while also gaining hands-on experience in technical theatre areas such as lighting, sound, costuming, and stage management. Whether performing on stage or serving as part of the production crew, all students are expected to commit fully to the rehearsal and performance process, developing professionalism, collaboration, and leadership skills essential to the theatre arts.
Play Production is a hands-on course designed for students interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of stage production. Students will explore the principles and practices of scenic design, lighting, sound, props, costuming, stage management, and crew work. Emphasis is placed on safety, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving as students gain practical experience building and supporting live productions. Participation in after-school rehearsals and performances is required, as students will serve as the technical team for El Toro High School Theatre productions.
The Spring Musical is El Toro High School’s largest annual production and is open to all students by audition (for performers) or application (for technical and crew positions). Once accepted, students will be placed in the 7th period Spring Musical class to support rehearsals and production work. If you are unable to change your schedule but would still like to audition or apply, please reach out to Miss Cole. Cast and crew commit to after-school rehearsals and evening performances, gaining valuable experience in acting, singing, dancing, and technical theatre while working together to present a polished, full-scale musical.
