BLACK HISTORY VIRTUAL LIBRARY
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Being "college-ready" means being prepared for ANY post secondary education or training experience, including study at two- and four-year institutions leading to a post secondary credential (i.e. a certificate, license, Associates or Bachelor's degree). Being ready for college means that a high school graduate has the knowledge and skills necessary to qualify for and succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing college courses without the need for remedial coursework.
School counselors work with students in classroom settings in small groups that target specific areas of need or concerns and through individual meetings for more directed one on one counseling. School counselors work with students on issues that may impede their ability to focus and have success in classrooms such as grief issues, loss, organization study skills, college application process and more.
