Study Skills - Periods 5 and 7

Study Skills is a course for students who are receiving special education services and require
contact time with a special education teacher so that they may work towards meeting their individual educational goals. Each day your child will be working on activities that will help him/her to develop the skills they need to be successful within their classes. In this elective, we will introduce and incorporate various learning strategies that will aid students to become independent learners. Students will be utilizing their study skills period to receive assistance from the special education teacher and paraprofessional. This class will be graded as pass/fail and that grade will be issued at the end of each quarter.

Each day for the first half of the period, students will participate in a mini-lesson that focuses on a variety of skills and strategies in order to develop their own individualized learning style based on their strengths. We will focus on developing a growth mindset which will allow students to develop into independent learners. Students will be able to work on homework assignments and to prepare for assessments for the remainder of the class period allowing them to practice the skills and strategies they have been learning about through the mini-lessons. My hope and vision is that this elective will help to provide the student with some "tools for their toolbox" so that they can become more independent.

Within this Study Skills course, students will be working on 5 Academic Behavior Learning Targets.
