Over the course of the school year you will be asked to find a weekly current event. This current event can be taken from a newspaper, weekly magazine, television, radio or the internet. Examples would be the Grand Forks Herald, Time, NBC Nightly news, CNN.com, etc.
To be considered a usable item the story has to come from outside of the United States. IT MUST BE A WORLD EVENT.
Every Monday, I will tell you if you have a Current Event due that Friday.
The student will then write the name of the article on top of the paper and document the source and date of the publication.
The next step is to read the article and then summarize on your paper. Two to three paragraphs will suffice as a summary.
Next, you will need to list the Five Themes of Geography (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region) and explain how they are used in the article.
You will then find the exact latitude and longitude of the city talked about in the article and write it down on the paper. You will then locate the city on the map provided and highlight it.
Each current event will be worth 10 points. I will assess on the basis of the following:
Following Directions (2)
Completing the 5 Themes of Geography (2)
World News Event (2)
Located on the map (2)
Neatness (2)
