Meet the Teacher

Hi! My name is Christy Bence, and I am the Reading/ELA and Social Studies teacher for the Bence-Smith 5th grade team! This is my 9th year teaching, with my last five years as a 5th grade reading teacher. I'm super excited to begin my 3rd year at the amazing Lakewood Elementary School, where both of my children have attended!

I have been married to my husband, Carey, for 15 years, and we have two awesome children, Carmen (13) and Cole (11). I earned my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Troy University, and I am currently pursuing my Master's from the University of West Alabama.

I absolutely love making a difference in the lives of children. I am so excited to see what amazing things your child accomplishes this year . I feel so blessed for the opportunity be a part of the LES family, and I know we will have a fantastic year!
