Students are asked to acquire the Imprints 12 textbook and a separate English binder.
We will begin by exploring the Elements of Fiction and introducing the concept of Literary Criticism.
This week we’re continuing our look at Archetypal Literary Criticism. We’ll be working on Archetype group presentations (due Tueesday) as well as reviewing The Elements of Fiction. There will be time in class for the group work.

The test will be broken into 3 parts:
short answer content questions
a few long answer thinking and application questions
a short story sight passage in which you will have to analyse archetypal elements
Be sure to study your notes and be familiar with definitions and application of terms.
This week we will be continuing our discussion of Feminist Literary Critique by analyzing the short story 'The Yellow Wallpaper". Students will be writing their own personal response to the story. Students will also begin to read their own novel in class to prepare for their literary critique book report assignment. We will begin to look at Register and Level of Language towards the end of the week.
This week we will be continuing our discussion on Language Register by looking at a few short stories. We will also be moving into Reader Response Literary Critique and analyzing that lens. There will be a test next week on Literary Criticisms studied so far.
Literary Critique Test Next week
This week we will be continuing to look at Reader Response Literary Critique, and evaluate a few literary works using this lens. There will be a test on the different Literary Criticism Types including: Archetypal, Feminist, Language Register and Reader Response. Students will be provided with review prior to the test.
Literature Circles & Reader's Journals Due
This week we will be finishing up Unit 1: Literary Criticism. Students will be assigned an in class task to view a movie and write a literary critique using all four types studied. We are also starting our second unit on Friday, and students will need to purchase the novel The Great Gatsby from the Finance Office.
This week marks the start of Unit 2: Novel Study. We will be looking at the historical background of the novel The Great Gatsby, as well as exploring the themes presented in the novel.
This week we are reading chapters 1-3 of The Great Gatsby. Students will be having their first literature circle on Friday to discuss the chapters in depth.

This week we will be having a field trip to the University of Ottawa on Wednesday. We will also extend out Literature Circle and complete the required sections of the packet. We will be reading chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby and working on the chapter questions and exit slip.
