OAA Mustangs!
As we head into Thanksgiving Break and finishing the final stretch of 2025, we want to pause and celebrate the strength, resilience, and that makes Oakwood Adventist Academy and our community so special. This time of year can feel busy, however it is also a reminder of who we are when we move forward together.
Thank you, parents, for your unwavering partnership. Thank you, teachers and staff, for leading with heart, purpose, and excellence. Thank you, students, for showing up each day with curiosity, courage and Mustang pride.
As we maintain a commitment to being focused, encouraged and giving our best, let's finish this year strong, together. When we each do our part, we all rise.
Enjoy the issue 5 of Mustang News!
Blessings,
The OAA Administration

Developing the whole student, mind, body and spirt is central to our mission. This year, we launched IMPACT Fridays, a dedicated mentoring initiative held on the second Friday of each month. It was designed to build character, deepen values, and foster meaningful connections across our K-12 program. Students are grouped by gender and grade level (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) to ensure that conversations, activities, and mentoring moments truly meet them where they are.
Each experience is intentionally crafted to help our young men and young women grow into confident leaders, thoughtful communicators, and grounded individuals with a clear sense of who they are in Christ.
Highlights from November
K-5 Boys: Exploring God's Creation
Our youngest boys set out on a hike led by Mr. Caldwell, taking in the beauty of nature while building teamwork and resilience. The hike encouraged them to appreciate God's handiwork and recognize the importance of staying active and connected.
K- 6 Girls: Hearing a Testimony of Faith
The girls gathered to hear the powerful testimony of Renee Scruggs, who shared her journey of learning to know God personally. Her words left the girls inspired and reminded them that God desires a relationship with each of them, no matter their age or stage.
7-12 Boys: Lessons on Entrepreneurship
Middle and high school boys participated in an entrepreneurship panel hosted by Joe Dent, where they learned practical skills, leadership principles, and the value of vision and discipline. The session sparked new interest in business and innovation among our young men.
6-8 Girls: Understanding Emotional Regulation
Middle school girls engaged in an interactive session with Dr. Henry, learning strategies to identify, navigate, and express their emotions with confidence and clarity. It was a safe, affirming space for growth and self-awareness.
9-12 Girls: Mastering Etiquette & Presence
High school girls explored table etiquette and social presence with Andraya Pearson, gaining tools that build poise, professionalism, and confidence in various social settings.
IMPACT Fridays are more than a program, they are an investment in our students' purpose and potential. By offering age-appropriate mentorship, real-life skills, and faith-centered guidance, we are equipping our Mustangs to lead with excellence today and for years to come.
A special thank you to our presenters and facilitators!

Our entire K–12 Mustang family will come together for a spiritually uplifting Week of Prayer, held December 8–12 at 8:00 AM daily. This year’s theme, “Plug Into the Power,” focuses on understanding and experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.
This special week will be both Christ-led and student-led, giving our young people the opportunity to speak, minister, and share how God is moving in their lives. Each day highlights a unique dimension of the Spirit’s power:
Day 1 – “The Power Within”
Presenter: Thomas Chatman
A powerful reminder that God's Spirit lives in us, equipping us with strength, purpose, and identity.
Day 2 – “Power for Transformation”
Presenter: Micah Awoniyi
Exploring how the Holy Spirit renews our hearts and minds, shaping us into who God has called us to be.
Day 3 – “Power for Boldness in Faith”
Presenters: Sydni Parker, Andre Pearson, & Skylar Matthews
A dynamic trio sharing what it means to stand courageously for Christ in a world that desperately needs His light.
Day 4 – “Power to Impact Others”
Presenter: Brooke Callender
A message centered on using our gifts, voices, and influence to reflect Christ’s love to those around us.
Throughout the week, our students will be reminded that true power is not found in our abilities alone, but in staying connected to the Source, Jesus Christ.
As we gather each morning, may our we be refreshed, renewed, and fully plugged into the power that only the Holy Spirit provides. we are expecting God to move in a mighty way.
Our K–4 Mustangs enjoyed a fun-filled fall field trip to Lyon’s Farm, and the smiles tell the whole story! Teachers, students, and chaperones spent the day exploring the beautiful grounds, learning about farm life, and experiencing the joy of hands-on autumn activities.
The highlight of the trip was visiting the pumpkin patch, where each student had the chance to select and bring home their very own pumpkin. From wagon rides and outdoor play to seeing animals up close, our students created memories that will last for a lifetime.
As always, we are grateful for our dedicated teachers and supportive chaperones who help make these enriching learning experiences possible. Enjoy this pictorial tour!
The Kindergarten and eighth grade cap and gown pictures will take place Friday, December 5, 2025. The cap and gown will be provided for each student to take their photo.

Earlier this week, Principal Mrs. Dent and Business Manager Ms. Ahiatsi attended the Southern Union Conference of SDA Administration and Departmental Meetings, where leaders from across the union gathered to collaborate, strengthen best practices, and discuss ways to enhance Adventist education.
Their participation provided valuable opportunities to engage with fellow administrators, hear updates across departments, and bring back fresh insights that will support continued growth and excellence at Oakwood Adventist Academy.
We are grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring OAA continues to operate with integrity, vision, and purpose. Their leadership keeps our mission strong and our Mustang community moving forward.
We are committed to helping our students dream big, plan boldly, and pursue every academic opportunity available to them. The North Alabama NSBE Professionals are offering scholarship opportunities for students in grades 5–12 who are passionate about STEM, leadership, and community impact.
These scholarships are designed to empower young scholars with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, to strengthen their academic journey and prepare for future careers. Eligible students can apply for grade-level awards, essay-based scholarships, and recognitions that highlight achievement, service, and creativity.
We encourage our families to take advantage of these valuable opportunities and support students as they explore pathways that build confidence, skill, and purpose.

This week at The Stable, our first graders took an exciting journey across the globe from the comfort of the library! As part of their cultural studies unit, students selected different countries to research and present, transforming the room into a colorful display of traditions, foods, and global diversity.
Each student shared key facts about their chosen country, described traditional foods, highlighted cultural outfits, and even explained how one would travel to get there. Their creativity and enthusiasm shined through every presentation.
Adding a special touch, several students brought in authentic foods representing the countries they studied, giving their classmates a delicious taste of the culture and making the experience even more memorable.
Our third graders joined as the audience, offering encouragement and support while learning right alongside their younger peers.
Our 3rd and 5th grade Mustangs are heading out for an exciting educational adventure! On Thursday, December 4, 2025, students will visit Cook’s Museum of Natural Science, where hands-on exhibits and interactive learning experiences bring science to life.

We look forward to a day of discovery, exploration, and learning!
We have an exciting update in this edition of the Green & Gold Report. Thanks to the support of our alumni, private donors and continued growth of our Mustang family and community, OAA has successfully secured the additional desks, chairs and Chromebook's needed to accommodate our increased enrollment this school year.
This achievement allows us to maintain comfortable, engaging, and well-equipped learning environments for every student. We are grateful for God's provision and for everyone who played a role in supporting us in meeting this important need.
With each step forward, our classrooms become stronger, our resources grow, and our students benefit most of all.
As part of our commitment to keeping students safe, all volunteers working with children on campus or during school events must complete a background check. If you plan to volunteer this year, please be sure to submit your information as soon as possible so you’re cleared before upcoming activities.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and welcoming environment for all students!
