Welcome to our class website!

The students have had a successful and busy year so far. In reading, students have been building their reading stamina every day through dedicated time reading their own just right books. In addition, we are working on identifying character traits, developing an understanding of character motivations, and learning how to summarize a story.

In writing, the students have been working diligently on developing their own fictional narrative story. Creating these stories is teaching them a great deal about the writing process, especially building their understanding that writing is a process consisting of many revisions and editing. In addition, they have also learned how to create a story arc and recognizing those arcs in other stories they read.

In math, students have worked hard to not only increase their math skills but also continue to deepen their mathematical understanding. We began the year with recognizing place value and rounding numbers up to the millions place. They have continued to master adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers, with and without regrouping. In multiplication, students are working hard to improve their mastery of their basic math facts, as well as learning how to multiply multi digit numbers. In addition, students have been working hard to incorporate valuable math vocabulary into their discussions.

Lastly, in science students have learned about plant structures and are currently studying soil, rocks and minerals. Students have greatly enjoyed the hands on experiments and interactive lessons!

Each day brings additional opportunities for all of us to increase our understanding of the world we share and I am excited to journey with the students this year!
