NCSD Strategic Plan 2019 - 2024 Safe & Healthy Environments

NCSD Climate Survey

NCSD is committed to our goal of ensuring all district environments are safe, orderly, supportive, and conducive to a climate of high expectations for students, staff, school visitors, and the community. The NCSD Climate Survey is the primary measure of this goal, and progress is reviewed by measuring stakeholder feedback.

As outlined in our Strategic Plan, NCSD will review progress on this goal by measuring stakeholder feedback via the NCSD Climate Survey. The purpose of this survey is to measure our work on engagement, environment, responsibility, and safety. The survey measures these four areas through multiple questions. Each domain is divided into subtopics with multiple questions that inform the overall score for each domain. A score of three (3) is considered to be meeting expectations.

Engagement describes the strong relationships between students, teachers, families, and schools and strong connections between schools and the broader community.  Environment is described as the appropriate facilities, well-managed classrooms, available school-based health supports, and a clear, fair disciplinary policy.  The questions for engagement and environment are based on the ED School Climate Survey but were modified for language used within NCSD and different role perspectives.

The safety and responsibility measures are aligned to NCSD work.  The safety subtopics directly correlate to the areas of the NCSD Comprehensive School Safety Work Plan. There is only one question within the domain of responsibility, which was written by the Climate, Communications, and Outreach Board Committee at the request of the Board of Trustees.

The information gained from this anonymous survey is used to help implement improvements at all schools and facilities.  The survey will be provided to students in grades 4-12, parents, and staff members.

The data shown on this page is from the 2023-2024 NCSD Climate Survey.
