Our Curriculum
Manor Heights uses the following curriculum resources to facilitate Wyoming State Content and Performance Standards:
Reading and Writing – At Manor Heights, we are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction that meets the needs of every learner. Our core English Language Arts resource is McGraw-Hill Wonders, which provides a strong foundation for instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Using this common resource across grade levels ensures instructional consistency while allowing teachers to differentiate through whole-group, small-group, and individualized learning experiences. To strengthen foundational reading skills, our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students receive explicit phonics instruction using UFLI Foundations, a research- and evidence-based program grounded in the Science of Reading. UFLI provides systematic, explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, and encoding, helping students build the strong literacy foundation necessary for lifelong reading success. In Grades 3–5, students continue to develop their reading proficiency through Word Origins, an evidence-based program that teaches morphology, vocabulary, and the meaning of Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. This instruction helps students expand their vocabulary, improve reading comprehension, and strengthen their ability to decode unfamiliar words across all content areas. Our writing instruction follows the Writer's Workshop model, where students learn the writing process through authentic opportunities to plan, draft, revise, edit, publish, and share their work. Students receive meaningful feedback from both teachers and peers, helping them grow as confident, capable writers. Throughout our literacy instruction, teachers create engaging learning experiences that encourage collaboration, critical thinking, discussion of complex texts, and purposeful integration of technology.
Math – At Manor Heights, we use Eureka Math² as our core mathematics curriculum to provide students with a deep understanding of mathematical concepts while developing procedural fluency and problem-solving skills aligned to the Common Core State Standards. This research-based program emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and real-world application, helping students build confidence as mathematicians. Our teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every learner through whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction. Students engage in a variety of learning experiences, including hands-on activities, collaborative discussions, written problem-solving, and purposeful use of technology. Through ongoing assessment and progress monitoring, teachers use data to provide targeted support and enrichment so that every student has opportunities to grow and succeed in mathematics.
In addition to their core academic instruction, all Manor Heights students participate in a well-rounded educational experience through weekly classes in art, music, library, and physical education. These special area classes encourage creativity, physical wellness, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning while supporting the development of the whole child.
Social-Emotional Learning - At Manor Heights, we believe that students thrive when they feel safe, connected, and supported. Our staff uses the Second Step curriculum, a research-based social-emotional learning program that helps students develop important life skills such as empathy, perspective-taking, emotional regulation, responsible decision-making, conflict resolution, and building healthy, positive relationships. These lessons help create a caring school community while equipping students with the skills they need to be successful both inside and outside the classroom.
