Justin Racine - Head Coach
The 2021-2022 season marks the 17th season of coaching for Head Coach Justin Racine. Coach Racine is in his 7th year as the head coach of the Magicians. With the goal in mind to help bring Minot High back to prominence of the program's storied history Racine moved back to Minot in 2009 to become an assistant coach. He was an assistant for 5 years before becoming the head coach in 2015. While at Minot High Coach Racine has coached 7 individual state champions and 89 state placers and led the Magicians to a Individual Team State Championship in 2017 and two runner-up finishes in the individual tournament and two runner-up finishes in the dual tournament. In 2017 he was named WDA Coach of the Year, Class A Coach of the Year and National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coach of the Year for the state of North Dakota.
Prior to coming back to his alma mater at Minot High Racine was a voluntary assistant coach in the Fargo South program for 4 years as well as a head coach at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School. He helped the Bruins to multiple top four finishes in both the individual and dual tournaments, including a runner-up finish in 2009, as well as 6 individual state champions and numerous state placers.
Justin and his wife Sierra have three boys Cohen (9), Eyston (8), and Breyer (5).
Michael Stein - Assistant Coach
Michael Stein is a 49 year old head assistant wrestling coach with the Minot High team graduating in 1989. After competing on the varsity squad for four years at Minot Bishop Ryan, Michael began volunteering as a coach with the team his freshman year of college. During the 1990-1991 season Michael was hired on as a Junior High coach with the program. He continued on with the Bishop Ryan program as an assistant coach through the 1995-1996 season.
From there he moved on to the Bismarck High program coaching three of the four years he was there taking a year off to officiate the sport. In 2000, Michael moved on to the Des Lacs Burlington program where he coached for two seasons and helped grow the fledgling program before being hired on in the Minot program where he has been coaching since 2002.
Coach Stein has also coached many years in developmental programs in the area for youth wrestlers. During his years coaching Michael has been a part of state championships teams including the 2017 Minot High School team. He has coached multiple state champions and many state place winners.
Michael has three children. The youngest, Devin, wrestled varsity for four years in the program as was a state place winner his Junior season. Michael also has five grandchildren.
Derek Bischof - Assistant Coach
Derek Bischof has been the Assistant Coach for Minot High School Wrestling for the past five
years and is also co-owner of Connole & Somerville Plumbing and Heating in Minot, ND.
Derek has been involved in the sport of wrestling for 34 years. Derek had a successful high
school career for Minot High which included 3 State Titles and a runner up finish. With his love
for the sport Derek knew that one day he would like to Coach wrestling and stay involved in
developing young wrestlers.
After a short college career at NDSU, Derek returned to Minot High School and was an Assistant
Coach for one year before becoming the Head Coach of the Bishop Ryan High School Wrestling
Program. During his time with Bishop Ryan he took the Program to a Runner Up Finish as a
team and was Region coach of the year multiple times. During his time at Bishop Ryan Derek
and a small group of wrestling supporters started the Dakota Rattlers Wrestling program in
which Derek is still the Head Coach of today. Dakota Rattlers currently has over 100 members
ranging K – 12. Derek loves the sport of wrestling and enjoys teaching the sport, but most of all Derek enjoys seeing what this sport does for young men and women in developing their future.
Derek and his wife Nikki have one son Logan (24).
