Attached is a 5 day unit plan created to match social studies standards for students in a 5th grade classroom!
Standards Addressed:

RL.5.7: Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning or tone of non-print texts.
RI.5.7 Analyze information from multiple print and non-print formats, demonstrating the ability to locate an answer to a question quickly or to solve a problem efficiently.
RI.5.8 Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular claims in a text, identifying which reasons and evidence support which claim(s).
Unit Goal: Students will be able to explain how the acts discussed were a cause of the American Revolution.
Key Activities: In this lesson, students engage in a variety of interactive activities designed to deepen their understanding of the American Revolution. They explore the reasons behind colonial migration from Great Britain, analyze the impact of taxation and specific acts like the Stamp, Quartering, and Townshend Acts on colonial sentiment, and creatively express their comprehension through a "Who and Where?" graphic organizer, discussions on taxation fairness, and a unique meme-captioning assessment related to the Intolerable Acts.
Assessment: The assessments in this unit plan include a graphic organizer for students to identify and describe key figures on both the American Colonists and British sides, and a variety of exit slips that challenge students to articulate their understanding of taxes, acts, and the perspectives of different groups involved in the American Revolution. Additionally, creative assessments like a Layered Look Book on specific acts and a meme-captioning activity regarding the Intolerable Acts allow students to demonstrate their learning in engaging and innovative ways.
