1.) Carbon makes up an estimated 18% of our bodies.. (sugars, proteins, glucose are all a part of carbon)
2.) Carbon loves to bond with other elements, while creating several compounds at a time: plastics, medications, and fuels etc...
3.) Carbon has a variety of different shapes: diamond, graphite (most commonly known)
The isotopes of Carbon
1.) Isotopes share about the same amount of chemical properties, along with the number of protons. However, they are different in neurons and mass (physical properties).
2.) The three main types of carbon are... 1.) Diamond 2.) Graphite 3.) Fullerene
3.) Oxygen-16
1.) An allotrope is an element that can exist in several different forms: diamond, charcoal, graphite etc...
Examples- 1.) Diamond 2.) Graphite 3.) Fullerenes 4.) Carbon nanotubes
1.) organic means something that comes naturally from nature, our grounds. when a food is called "organic", it refers to no added artificial pesticides or flavoring.
2.) In chemistry, organic refers to the study of carbon-containing compounds. Along with the structure, and composition of it.
3.) Organic chemistry in the real world, is how our body and skin reacts to chemical formulas/products, along with the environment around us. The creation of things such as, soaps, polymers, plastic, nylons are all applications of organic chemistry in our real world.
1.) Explanation: Carbon dating refers to the strategy that is able to estimate how old an organic material is, and can travel back thousands of years.
2) It is not easy to date organic materials older than 40,000 years old, and inorganic materials are not able to be dated using radiocarbon analysis. Which puts more restrictions on some materials and their dates.
3.) Potassium-Argon dating & uranium-lead
We will work together as a class to complete some of the practice questions in the document below. Then, you will be given time to work in partners or individually to complete the assignment.
I will explain the process to solving the problems and I have provided additional videos for your support.
