Involvement
As the owner of Kimsdulceconfectionsjr, I managed all aspects of the business. Including product creation, marketing, and order fulfillment. This meant I created the product, took and edited product photos, and promoted them on social media. This led to handling packing and shipping to ensure customer satisfaction.
As a volleyball player, I attended weekly practices and games. I would often help other girls practice their form and always gave support to my team. Not only did I play in school but also outside of school in a park team. There were times when our coach could not make it to practice so as captain I would lead the practice.
As a volunteer, I not only led various activities in collaboration with other volunteers but also interacted with customs. I created a clean environment by picking up any mess or trash left behind. I would also answer any and all questions that visitors had about the exhibit.
I attended the USC Pre-College Summer Program where I lived on campus and took a Legal Reasoning and Argumentative class for 4 weeks. In the class, I read case files and participated in mock trials, and debates. I learned legal terminology and to think outside of the box. Outside of the class I attend various workshops to get college aid.
Tree People is a non-profit organization in Los Angeles California that promotes environmental sustainability. They do this by educating the community and hosting tree-planting events
As a Student Run LA participant I attended practice weekly where I ran several miles. Once a month I will compete in a race that increases in mileage every month until March where I competed and finished the LA Marathon. I learned about the physical and mental hardship of running 26 miles but I loved every step it took.
As a wrestler, I attend weekly practices and go to weekend tournaments to compete. There were times when I had helped the boy's team with hosting their own tournaments. I have learned the importance of giving 100% in everything and being committed. By doing this I was able to place first in my first tournament and was a regional and city placer.
I participated in the UCLA MATCH program where I learned about the importance and creativity in clinical research and the different career paths in health care. I engage in several group discussions on how to handle certain healthcare situations. At the end of the program, I presented my own research proposal on Fragile X Syndrome.
As a Track and Field participant I had to go to races to compete. While I only participated in the shot put event I learned the importance of supporting your teammates throughout their runs and events. In my event (shot put) I placed in league.
As a team member, I had multiple responsibilities such as order-taking, processing payments, and making sure the food was delivered hot and complete. I also constantly kept a clean environment by cleaning and restocking supplies. These tasks are essential in delivering efficient customer service.
During the summer I participated in the Girls Who Code two-week virtual coding program where I learned the different components of coding a game. As an alumnus, I was offered to participate in their six-week self-paced program where I am currently learning about data science, web design, Cybersecurity, etc.
I attended Carnegie Mellon University SAMS program where I lived on campus and took multiple classes such as Number Theory, and Data Science and participated in lab experiments in subjects such as Biology and Chemistry. Outside of the classes I attend various workshops to get college aid.
GEAR UP is a program that aims to increase the number of low-income pursuing a higher education. I benefited from their college admission workshops which clarified A-G requirements and my options for college. Through GEAR UP, I partook in several of their college campus visits to see what kind of college I wanted to attend.
PUENTE is a program that helps Latinos or Latinas reach higher education. I benefited from their college admission and application workshops as well as my one-on-one meeting to discuss my track for college. I have also taken advantage of the college visits that PUENTE offers. PUENTE also gave me a supportive and helpful community.
