Hey plant-enthusiast! Here, you'll get to know more about the executives of MUBC.
Hello, Botanical Buds! My name is Sara, and I am the President of the MacEwan University Botanical Club.
Here at MacEwan, I have been able to delve into the vast and fascinating world of plants, with my major being Honours Biology with a particular focus in Botany. I've had the pleasure to share with members this passion I've discovered throughout my degree. I am a mature student heading towards my last year as an undergrad, in which I have acquired many skills I directly apply to this position with MUBC.
As President, I ensure that we as executives carry out our responsibilities to the best of our ability so that members of MUBC can continue exploring Botany in exciting and enriching ways. With the issue of COVID-19 being ever-present in our lives and with safety guidelines continually evolving, I make sure that our events remain safe while also presenting the opportunity to learn new things and, most importantly, to have fun! MUBC is an accessible space for all of those curious about plants; All are Welcome to Grow with us!
Hey there! My name is Sandy and I am the Secretary for the Macewan Botanical Club.
I am in my 3rd year of Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology in the ecology stream. I am very enthusiastic about plant biology, facts, and gardening. I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge within the club. My role is to keep professional and organized records of the club's activities, and I prioritize protecting privacy, so I strive to keep member information confidential.
I love the summer seasons because my favorite activities are gardening and backpacking. I also love to cook so my favorite plants are those I can eat...or the plants that smell good or look beautiful, so pretty much all plants.
Hi! My name is Benjamin, and I am the Vice President Administration of MUBC.
I am a molecular biology honours student. While my primary field of study does not directly focus on botany, I have a deep interest in growing plants. I joined the botany club because I saw it as a great way to learn more about the botanical realm. I am mainly interested in growing edible plants at home; I am currently growing various herbs and vegetables. I am always looking to talk about this hobby of mine with other people! Additionally, my honours research focuses on studying antimicrobials compounds from weeds. Other than growing delicious plants, I enjoy cooking, playing video games, exploring nature, and hanging with friends.
I see this position with MUBC as an opportunity not only to learn more about plants myself but also to share exciting knowledge about them with others. I provide the club members tips and tricks on how they can care for their plants at home, as well as the riveting uses for plants, such as drug discovery and development.
Hello, my name is Areal! I am the Vice President of Events with MUBC.
My dad had always been a gardener since he was young, and as I was growing up, he had taught me the satisfaction of caring for and growing my own food. This lesson developed into a strong appreciation for Botany in general. Beyond plants, I like video games, sketching, outdoor activities like camping and fishing, and discovering new things about biology!
Being the executive event coordinator at MacEwan Botanical Club is an honor to bear and a challenge for my organization skills. As VP Events Coordinator, I plan only the most relevant and impactful events for the student body and ensure everything is signed and accounted for. I maintain effective communication with the treasurer throughout my planning and consult with him about any necessary expenses.
My name is Matthew Harper, and I am the Vice President Public Relations and Communication.
I'm in my 3rd year, minoring in Biology at MacEwan, but I have been a professional landscaper and gardener for the past 6 summers. I like to spend parts of my summer playing around with my DSLR camera, and I am currently nurturing around 30 plants that I started from seed this winter (habaneros and tomatoes). I like making fresh, spicy salsa out of my veggies! I also really enjoy anything outdoors (snowboarding, hunting/fishing etc.), playing guitar, cooking, and photography!
As someone with both professional and amateur experience with the botanical world, I know that getting started can be overwhelming. I think the pandemic has created a wave of new amateur gardeners, including myself, and I want to help other students feel the botany club is there to support and foster their interest!
Hi, my name is Logan Farr, and I am the Treasurer of the Botanical Club.
I have been with the club for one year, and I have a lot of fun; I want you to have fun like me! I strive to make this club accessible for everyone. I have a visual disability and have great support at home and at school. I want people to ask for help or accommodations to make it easier for others in the club.
I enjoy the outdoors and growing tomatoes. I once grew a tomato plant that was over 6ft tall! My computer skills are great, which allows me to do a fantastic job at managing the financial part of the club.
