Who is eligible for Lynwood Unified Virtual Academy?

Any current Lynwood Unified School District student and out-of-district students who are enrolling in the district for the first time may attend Virtual Academy.

Who will be teaching in the Virtual Academy?

Our LUSD teachers are fully credentialed and meet all requirements in the sate of California to provide quality instruction.

What do parents and students require for Virtual Academy participation?

Lynwood Unified currently provides 1:1 devices to all its students. New students to LUSD will be provided with a device upon registering for classes, through our Technology Department. The device will be used to attend class and submit assignments. Any LUSD students who have a device/hotspot from their current school will be able to keep using that one. Students who need a device/hotspot will receive assistance in checking out a device/hotspot from their home school.

In addition, each virtual teacher may have their own supplies depending on their instructional needs. Distribution for these supplies will be announced to LUSD families.

It is also required parents and students communicate via email or through the Parent Portal as to establish clear communication of any Virtual Academy expectations.

Is there a deadline to enroll to Virtual Academy?

Yes, the deadline to enroll in Virtual Academy is August 17, 2022 for the 2022-2023 academic year. Enrollment is on an ongoing basis and students will be placed based on availability.

Will there be a Master Agreement for LUSD families attending Virtual Academy?

Yes, all families will need to sign and agree to a Master Agreement within the first days of enrollment in order to attend Virtual Academy.

How will attendance be taken?

Attendance is work-based, where students must complete all their assignments to receive 100% attendance credit. Continued enrollment in Virtual Academy is dependent on the students’ daily or weekly work submission, attendance, and participation. If students regularly miss assignments or have excessive absences for synchronous classes, their placement in the Virtual Academy will be evaluated and they may be required to return to in-person instruction.

How many instructional hours will be provided to students?

Students may receive daily instructional support from a teacher and frequent one-on-one support along with small group interventions. Please refer to the LUSD Virtual Academy Schedule for further information.

Can students return to their home school for in-person instruction?

Yes, requests for transfers in and out of the Virtual Academy must be made 2 weeks prior to the end of the quarter to make arrangements at either the school sites or the Virtual Academy program.
