Math Strategy Wall

What strategies do we use to find our answers?

*use pictures

*use a number line

*use a number grid/hundreds chart

*turn around facts or rule (ex. 2+3=5 and 3+2=5)

*doubles facts (ex. 2+2, 6+6)

*friends of ten (complements of ten 2+8, 4+6, 5+5, etc.)

*+0, +1, and +2 facts

* "near doubles facts"  (ex. 2+3; 4+5; 10+11)  When a student knows the doubles facts, he can use them to quickly solve facts that are "near doubles facts."  The student thinks, for example, "I know 4+4=8 so 4+5 must be one more than 8."

*fact families (ex. 4+5=9; 5+4=9; 9-5=4; 9-4=5)
