Assessments are a great Schoology tool to use because for most of the question types, the system will grade the question for you. You will find everything you need to know about creating Assessments on this page. But don't limit yourself to using the Assessment tool just for formal assessments. It can be use for so much more. Using the Toolbar in Schoology Assessments - There are many functions that can be added to each test question. Learn all of those that can be implemented through the tool bar.
One of the best things about Schoology Assessments is that the system will grade the questions for you. But only certain question types will be graded by the system. Below you will find the question types that the system will grade.
Multiple Choice Question Type - This is your typical multiple choice question type, but you can take it a step further by adding pictures, videos and more to your answer choices.
True False Question Type - I like to think of this as an Either/Or question type as it doesn't have to just be a True/False question. Change the two options to whatever you want.
Matching Question Type - Go a step further with your matching questions by adding videos, audio clips or even GIFs.
Ordering Question Type - Add pictures or GIFs to this ordering question type to take it up a notch.
Fill in the Blank Question Type - Spelling counts on this question type, so put in alternate spellings in the alternate answers for commonly misspelled words.
Fill in the Blank: Drop Down Question Type - The drop down feature make this fill in the blank question type more like a multiple choice question.
Fill in the Blank: Drag and Drop Question Type - The drag and drop feature make this fill in the blank question type more like a multiple choice question.
Label Image Question Type - Just add any image, a few labels and you have a great labeling exercise.
Highlight Hotspot Question Type - Upload any image, draw around the objects and students click to choose their answer.
Highlight Text Question Type - You can set up your question to have students click on words, sentences or paragraphs. This is a great way to have students identify the main idea of a paragraph.
Number Line Question Type - Perfect for any number line or timeline questions.
Chart Question Type - Graphs available are bar, line, dot plot, line plot and histogram.
The question types included in this section are the ones that you, as the teacher, will need to grade. The system can not grade them for you.
Short Answer/Essay Question Type - With 18 formatting tools available to your students, this is a great way to get a written response from your students. You just choose which ones you want them to have access to.
Audio Question Type - Allow your students to record an audio clip to answer the question.
Video Question Type - Allow your students to record a video to answer the question.
File Upload Question Type - Students can upload a file as the answer to this question type. There 20 different files types that are accepted.
Highlight Image Question Type - Upload any image and your students can draw on it. You can also play back the screen recording to see exactly what each of your students did to get their final response.
Math Short Answer Question Type - 18 different keyboard types are available to your students. Pick the one that fits your needs and add it to the question.
Adding Alternate Answers - sometimes you have multiple ways to answer a question. Adding alternate answers allows the system to know that there are multiple ways to get the answer correct and grade it accordingly.
Adding Learning Objectives and Rubrics to Assessment Questions - learn how to add learning objectives to track standard mastery or add a rubric to grade an open ended question type.
