While all applicants will be considered for the scholarship, preference will be given to applicants admitted to Penn State University and/or majoring in Business or Medical related fields. The committee may consider applicants who are pursuing careers in business or the medical field to any four year accredited institution of higher learning.
Mr. Lebo is a proud graduate of Halifax Area High School. Mr. Lebo graduated from the Pennsylvania State University cum laude in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and received an M.S. degree in Hospital Administration with distinction from Northwestern University in 1958.
As a former Director of Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. Lebo elected to defer fees earned as a Director, rather than to take them as income, qualifying him to participate in the Director’s Charitable Award Program. Mr. Lebo designated the Halifax Area School District as a major beneficiary to receive a contribution from Blue Cross in the amount of $587,500.
In addition, Mrs. Barbara Lebo contributed to the scholarship fund so that deserving graduates from the Classes of 2019 and 2020 were able to benefit from a portion of the endowment. This act of generosity enabled the district to award additional scholarships to eligible students earlier than originally planned.
During Mr. Lebo's distinguished career in business and health administration, he was an Assistant Administrator at Harrisburg Hospital, PA; President of Oil City Hospital, PA; and President of Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, until he retired in 1985. Mr. Lebo also served as a Director of Union National Bank which later became Union National Corporation, which then merged with Integra Bank of Pittsburgh to become National City Corporation. He also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh-Graduate School of Public Health.
Halifax Area School District is thankful for the generosity of the Lebo Family and are excited by the opportunities the Clifford S. Lebo Scholarship provides for our students.
