Here are some ways GOVS students can earn offline time!

Some basic rules:

These links are designed to give you offline time in your regular classes (i.e. English, Math, Science, and Social Studies).
All you have to do is click on the Picture that is just above the title & description. That will take you to the webpage!
There is still the Independent Reading class & the Documentary/Film class. Clicking inside those classes will give you ideas on what to read and/or watch.
On our website www.mygovs.com, there is a Reading Corner button just to the right of the Student VLA Login button. We will update the Reading Corner each week with an "Article of the Week".
More ideas will be added to this page as teachers submit them.

Mrs. Saylor (one of our English teachers) created this page -- it is full of ways to earn offline time for your English class!

Dave Stuart Jr. Article of the Week

Mrs. Beisner (another one of our English teachers) uses this page in her classes. This page has a ton of articles you can use for both Independent Reading & your English class!

INFOhio

Here's a site that GOVS Tutor Mrs. Reeves likes to use -- INFOhio is a HUGE website of resources for all ages/grades/subjects. There are activities to complete, videos to watch, and everything in between!

History Channel

Do you like History? While there is History Channel on most cable TV systems & most streaming services like ChromeCast or AppleTV, History Channel also has a fantastic website with videos and readings! Mrs. Reeves also recommends this site!

Science Daily

Ms. Griffith (one of our fantastic tutors) uses this site to help her students! And since it's about science, you could use these articles in your science class as well!

Smithsonian Tween Tribune

This is another Ms. Griffith site -- full of articles you can read. What's great about this one? You can change the "grade" up top and change the reading level -- same articles but presented with different vocab!

Math Games

Mr. Merk -- one of our math teachers -- uses this page for his math classes! There are some fun games available, including Putt Putt aka Mini Golf!

Watch a Math Movie

Mr. Burchfield -- another one of our awesome math teachers -- lets his students watch movies (that have a math theme) and use the movie time for offline time! How cool is that?

Social Studies offline activities

Mrs. Elliott (one of our social studies teachers) developed this list of a TON of ways to get offline! There are things you can write, things you can watch, and some things you can research.

Want some Mental Health resources?

GOVS Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Manchak, likes this site for overall mental health. There are videos, readings, and other activities.

Zoom webinars on Study Skills & Life Skills to help during this pandemic

GOVS School Counseling Intern Ms. Smagulova hosts webinars every Monday & Wednesday (Study Skills) and every Thursday (Life Skills, stress, & anxiety during the pandemic). You can participate in the webinar, or just sit back and listen.

Brain POP Activities

Miss Goubeaux, GOVS math teacher, tutor, and mentor, loves to use the BrainPOP activities that are all over VLA! Did you know that you can get to BrainPOP without being in VLA?

You will need a special Login username and password to access this site. If you do not know it, send an email to: email@mygovs.com and request the login info.

Kuta Software -- math practice worksheets

If you are an eager learner and want to do some additional math practice, Miss Goubeaux also uses Kuta Software for practice worksheets. There aren't any notes or helpful hints, but there are a ton of practice worksheets -- and answers on the 2nd page! No Fluff. No Jargon. Just Math.
