Narria (Senior) – I enjoy learning new things and getting to be creative when designing new robots with my team. I learned to work with others to improve on my design, to be simple rather then complex, to not always go with the first idea, and to keep trying even if the first design fails.
Selena (Sophomore) – I enjoy putting in a lot of time and effort to brainstorm solutions to problems with my friends, and then seeing the fruits of these efforts at competitions. The joy of watching something we built accomplish something is unrivaled. VEX taught me a lot about patience and persistence. We hit a lot of walls when building, and breaking down these walls has made me stronger as a person. On the technical side, I now have way better dexterity, and I understand more about the mechanics and electrical components of robotics. Most importantly, VEX has taught me how to work with other people, how to take leadership and when to step back, and how to use everyone’s skills to benefit the team as a whole.
Sadie (Sophomore) – I enjoy being able to test out new ideas and learn from other teams. I have taken out of this, trial and error, team work and the most important arguing even when wrong.
Rebecca (Senior) - I really like building and finding solutions to make the robots perform better.
Mr. Ostgarden – As a VEX Robotics coach, things that I have seen in my students is their growth. Their communication and collaboration with other teams, some from around the world, and willingness to go talk about their robots and how they can help each other in a match. Another area of growth is creativity. They are given so many different problems by the game but also others that come up from just building their robot. The last growth I have seen is their commitment to working on their robots on their own time. Over 300 hours were logged last year alone.
