How to Tune a String Instrument

How to Tune:

1. Read through this ENTIRE tuning presentation and watch the appropriate videos for your instrument Tuning Presentation
2. Make sure that your tuner is set to A = 440. "440" means that the note makes 440 vibrations per second which produces the correct pitch.
3. Students should start by using the fine tuners on the tailpiece to make small adjustments. If the strings are very loose please ask a parent for assistance. Ms. Hartten is always available during office hours or by appointment to help tune via Zoom or Facetime.

You Broke A String...Now What

• Visit Poppler's Music in town to purchase a new string and have it put on your instrument ; they are currently still open to the public. If you are using a school instrument you are responsible for purchasing your own replacement strings for the duration of distance learning.
• Contact your instrument rental store (Poppler's, Arioso, Scott's, Kenny's) and ask if you are able to pick up a string or have the string replaced. Strings come in a length that matches that size of the instrument.
• Contact Ms. Hartten for a link to order the correct string online (PLEASE TRY IN TOWN MUSIC STORES FIRST!). Ms. Hartten will help students or parents install the new string via Zoom during office hours
