What is the cost of school orchestra lessons?
There is no participation fee for school orchestra lessons!
When are lessons?
Students receive lessons once per week during the school day. Group orchestra rehearsal provides additional opportunities for students to prepare for upcoming performances. Please select your school at the top of the page for specific information.
Where do I get an instrument?
Please visit the homepage for information on local instrument retailers. Families with demonstrated financial need can contact Ms. Hartten about the possibility of using a school scholarship instrument.
What are the expectations for practice at home?
Students enrolling in orchestra must understand they are also making a commitment to regular practice at home. Parents do not need to know anything about music in order to assist in a child’s home practice. However, parents should ensure that practice is part of a child’s daily/weekly routine, and assist in arranging a time when practice can be done without interruptions.
What are the expectations if we transfer to distance learning?
In the event that we transfer to distance learning this year, your student will be expected to interact weekly with Ms. Hartten via Seesaw, Google Classroom, or Zoom and continue demonstrating progress on their instrument. Students who do not participate will be removed from class until we resume in-person instruction.
Are there concerts and expectations?
Elementary schools have a winter concert and a spring concert. Students are expected to be at concerts. Orchestra is a team, and concerts are our “game day!”
How will I be informed of my child’s progress?
Orchestra students receive progress reports each trimester. Ms. Hartten will keep in touch about individual accomplishments or concerns.
What will my child gain by participating in orchestra?
Studies show that students who participate in music do better academically and socially. In addition to learning how to be a musician, students learn self-confidence, poise, dedication and how to be part of a cooperative team.
