Automotive, Diesel, and Collision Repair
On May 4th, representatives from the Automotive Service and Tire Alliance (ASTA) and GTCC visited Weaver Academy Automotive Service, Diesel Technology, and Collision Repair students to present information about the NC Automotive Apprenticeship Program. Students learned details about how the program works and how to apply. In addition, the representatives shared valuable information about employability skills and helpful tips for developing a professional resume. Afterwards, students had the opportunity to meet individually with local automotive shop owners and representatives from the apprenticeship program to network and ask questions. Apparel and Fashion Merchandising
On February 25th, Weaver Academy students from Ms. Doran’s Apparel classes and Ms. Bergsma’s Fashion Merchandising classes connected with students and faculty from NC A&T University’s Fashion Merchandising and Design program. Current Weaver students were able to engage in conversation with former Weaver CTE student Mya Harris as well as Professor Elizabeth Hopfer. Mya provided a first-hand account of how Weaver CTE provided her a strong foundation for her future education and career. Mya also inspired students by discussing her personal fashion line – Rat by Mya Nicole. Professor Hopfer discussed the amazing program and opportunities available at NC A&T University including internship experiences, cutting-edge technology, and laboratory spaces within the program. Some of the brand names that the NC A&T program have partnered with include Guess, Belk, Gap, Kate Spade, and more recently, Louis Vuitton. Several of the Weaver students are interested in learning more about the program and have been invited to view NC A&T’s Fashion Department presentation this spring
Carpentry
Students from Mr. Adkins' Carpentry II class recently visited a home site in High Point and worked to put the finishing touches on a newly constructed home. This was part of a partnership with Fannie Mae. Students earned pay and valuable hands-on work experience through this project.
Automotive / Diesel/ Collision
Students from Mr. Dove's Automotive Service class, Mr. Crutchfield's Diesel class, and Mr. Del Vecchio's Collision class were treated with a visit from Universal Technical Institute. Students learned about all of the programs available to students interested in furthering their career in Automotive Service, Diesel Technology, and Collision Repair.
Mario Pennycooke from UTI showed students real-life examples of how science, technology, engineering, and math play an important role in today's automotive industry.
