Homework... is intended to open communication between family members about student learning. Please encourage your child to talk about what they are learning in school.
Reading nightly is a must! It's vital. It's non-negotiable. Research shows that nightly reading helps children immensely! However, students will read from books of their choosing, at their own pace, and for a number of minutes (or pages) according to goals that they set themselves! Students will record their books in Independent Reading Journals and keep up with the AR goals.
Math homework will be given most days (unless no new content has been presented in class). Families should expect math homework to come home in the form of workbook pages from our Go Math! curriculum. Please ask if you have questions about nightly math homework. Click here for math homework help!
Birthdays are special celebrations for young children. At Sunset Lane, we value both healthy choices and instruction time. If you would like to do something to celebrate your child's birthday with his/her classmates, please consider donating a gently used or new book to the classroom library. Your child can help select the book, put his/her name or picture on the inside cover, and wrap the book to give as a present to the class. The book will then be shared with the class on his/her special day and added to the classroom library! I am open to other ideas if you contact me in advance to discuss. Please do not bring cupcake or other food items to celebrate.
