On September 27th at the Avalon Hollywood, please join us for a special storytelling event: Stories That Make Us. Through original essays written by young people impacted by homelessness, and brought to life on stage by professional actors, the voices of young people will take center stage.
Alongside the works of the young people, we will uplift the stories of those who shape and sustain My Friend’s Place: alumni forging new paths forward, volunteers who show up with consistency and care, and community champions whose journeys of contribution and belonging are woven into the shared narrative of My Friend’s Place today.
Writer & Producer
With a career spanning nearly two decades, award-nominated actor Brandon Jay McLaren has built a powerful presence in film and television—bringing unforgettable characters to life on screen and leaving his mark behind the camera as a creative force as a producer and director. Most recently, he starred alongside Toni Collette in the highly acclaimed Netflix thriller “Wayward,” created by and co-starring Mae Martin.
Physician & MFP Alumna
Sheryl Recinos, MD, is a proud alumna and board member of My Friend's Place. She credits MFP for giving her a safe space as a teen and ultimately helping her find her permanent exit from homelessness. She is grateful that her three adult children never had to experience homelessness as she did, and wants that for all young people. She dreams of a world where we solve youth homelessness and protect all young people.
