Assistive Technology

What is AT?

Assistive Technology (AT) is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them.

Technology can be a great equalizer for individuals with disabilities that might prevent full participation in school, work, and the community. AT is any tool that helps students with disabilities do things more quickly, easily or independently. It can be elaborate and expensive or simple and low-cost. AT services provide supports for students using AT devices. AT trials and evaluations, are completed to identify the most appropriate AT support for individual students.

Who are We?

AT representatives serve as guides through the AT process. We give guidance and ideas for AT application relating to the education of children with disabilities impacting their education. We can also provide assistance with equipment maintenance, technical assistance, demonstrations, and training relating to At devices and supports.

The FPS district AT Representative Team is comprised of several representatives. This includes elementary and secondary educators.

We believe that all individuals with disabilities are entitled to equal access to the technology needed to ensure opportunities for learning.

We accept the responsibility to provide AT services, when appropriate, to directly assist a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an AT device.
