Camps Taught
Here at Hemei Senior High School we have run a range of camps. These have mainly been introducing students to sports that common in countries that are part of the Commonwealth but uncommon in Taiwan. The sports taught, have been touch rugby and cricket. Also, taught was a speaking English course.
Touch Rugby
Touch rugby is the safe version of rugby union and rugby league which are both sports popular in various Commonwealth countries and France. The rules are quite unusual to those who have not experienced them before. However, students who attended both the winter and summer touch rugby camps were very adaptable and by the end of both camps had picked up the rules and were using basic strategies when playing. I was very happy with efforts!
Day 1: Learn the rules
Day 2: Learn the skills
Day 3: Game On!
Cricket
Cricket is a popular summer sport in the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand. It is the second most popular team sport in the world, while at the same time being the most English of all sports. Students at Hemei really enjoyed learning about cricket and made connections between cricket and baseball. All in all, because of these connections students were quickly able to learn rules, skills and strategies for playing effective cricket. Their progress in three days was impressive!
Day 1: Rules and skills
Day 2: Skills and a basic game

Speaking English
The speaking English camp did exactly what it said on the tin, gave the students the chance to speak English. However, dimensions explored during this camp included not only speaking but exploring options surrounding responses to questions and appropriate dialogues for a variety of situations. Students really put their best feet forward during this camp, and produced some inspirational speaking and clever dialogues.
Day 1: Exploring example dialogues
Day 2: Making their own dialogues for a role play.
Day 3/4: Practice and perform role plays
