Scott Feister is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at CSUCI. He earned a B.S. in Physics from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from The Ohio State University. Scott's expertise and passion for scientific computing grew out of his postdoctoral work in computational physics at the University of Chicago and the University of California Los Angeles. He sought out CSUCI deliberately for its qualities as a teaching-oriented, majority first-generation-to-college / Latinx-serving university. His mission as a teacher is to create a new force in STEM by providing first-tier research experiences, perspectives, and opportunities to our diverse student body. In concert, Scott's mission as a researcher is to leverage modern computing to improve scientific outcomes. In Summer 2023, he helped lead a national boot camp for high-performance computing, in which the team of undergraduates (from community colleges, universities, etc.… around the country) created an “Energy Justice” A.I. chatbot capable of explaining content found in their own curated set of documents relating to energy justice.
