Online Dance History Course

This course was designed by Heather Castillo and MiRi Park for CSU Channel Islands with the support of our Teaching and Learning Innovations Center. The course is designed to be text book free so students do not incur an additional text book cost, which is often a barrier to education. It is "choose your own adventure" style to promote a growth mindset and critical thinking, while allowing students to learn about dance history from multiple viewpoints and voices without prioritizing any one form. We offer our course structure, reading list, and assignment prompts to help those shifting to developing fully online courses and and as an option for decentralizing dance studies.

The structure of our course is fluid. and we have been testing it out and working on the structure for the past 5 years. We are hoping it becomes part of a discussion surrounding anti-racist dance education. Please use the community forum. We look forward to hearing from you.

The "choose your own adventure" structure is based on a 16 week semester. There are three modules of 5 weeks each. The third Spark! paper is the last assignment during finals week. You could easily break it down into shorter weeks or fewer modules.
