*This course is "asynchronous" which means "There will be no required scheduled class meetings". You set your weekly schedule.
The best way to reach me is by email.

I try to respond within 24 hours during the week (Monday - Friday). I may not be available on weekends, but please leave a message and I will respond on Monday (or on the next school day).
Use the Q&A Discussion for General Questions
If you encounter a general question about the course, I invite you to ask it in the Q&A (Watercooler) Discussion. Your question will be seen by your peers and if anyone has the answer -- by all means, answer it!
If your question is personal in nature, please send it directly to me through email or the Canvas inbox.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

explain critical thinking dispositions such as being curious, persistent, and open to new ideas, positioning yourself in the lifelong journey to develop strong critical thinking capability, inclination and sensitivity to opportunity
carry out the six steps of a critical inquiry on a subject of interest to you
draw upon scientific primary research to help answer the questions of an inquiry, evaluating methods and analyzing and interpreting data
I know that every person is capable of learning anything. As a teacher I can offer some experience, some information and some suggestions, but ultimately it is the learner's responsibility to learn the thing. My goal is to partner with my students to help them move themselves to the next level of whatever it is they are learning. I strive to make my class a safe place to try new things, to find a voice and to make mistakes. Mistakes are something to be welcomed, because it is through mistakes that we learn the best.
In a class we students and teachers are all members of a community and have a unique and special opportunity to learn from each other. Each member of the community is different and those differences will strengthen our learning by yielding unique insights drawn from diverse experiences.
To make the learning process most effective for all of us, together, it is essential for each member of this learning community to understand our specific roles and expectations for success. Please take a moment to read the following commitments that all of us should be prepared to honor during our time together in this course.
What you can expect of me:
As your facilitator, I will be actively present and enthusiastic in your learning experience.
I will respond to your questions within 24-hours during the week. On weekends and holidays I may not be available, but I will respond to your inquiries on the next business day.
Feedback and revision is an integral part of how this course is structured. I will provide feedback on your assignments within 72 hours.
Your opinions, thoughts and words matter to me and will make a difference in this class. It is my job as your instructor to ensure that you feel safe and supported as you stretch your mind around new concepts and skills in a new learning environment.
Your success is important to me. I understand that there are many challenges for students in today's world and I will be here to support you when questions arise and you need guidance. Please do not hesitate to contact me when you have a concern and want assistance in this course.
You are important to me. I will be thoughtful in my interactions with you and will take extra care to respect diverse perspectives and to support your learning and growth.
What I will expect of you:
You will log into our course each week no later than Monday evening to evaluate the work and due dates in the current module. (I will open the module on the previous Saturday, and will provide time estimates for each activity to help you plan.)
Each week, you will be begin your assignments early and will respond in a timely manner to emails and discussion posts.
You will always review your assignment feedback, and if necessary revise and resubmit the assignment to earn a completion.
Please challenge yourself to try new things, keep an open mind, and recognize that mistakes are a vital part of the learning process. We all make them and we will celebrate them together.
Please submit assignments on time. If you identify a concern with meeting a due date, please contact me directly early in the week to discuss your concern so we can come to an agreement about an extension if needed.
Please be thoughtful in your interactions with peers while taking extra care to respect diverse perspectives and to support the learning and growth of your peers.
⭐Use Chrome as your browser. Canvas works best on Chrome and so do various other technologies you'll be using in our course. I recommend you download Chrome now if you don't have it installed already.
⭐ Work hard to stay current and not fall behind in the activities. This course is a scaffolded course - each assignment, discussion and project step is built on the previous ones. So log in to our course each Monday (or earlier) to orient yourself to the new module. Take note of the assignments and their due dates. Mark them on your digital calendar to help track them.
⭐Log-in multiple times during the week, and remember to check the Announcements and Q&A Discussion Board. There may be important and helpful updates. You can also enable Canvas to alert you to new announcements. You'll learn how to do this in our Getting Started module.
⭐Use the feedback. I strive to give prompt, thoughtful and actionable feedback in this course, and it is a strong learning move to take advantage of it. Always review your assignment feedback, and apply it as appropriate to a revisions or subsequent activities.
⭐If you sense that you might not be able to meet a due date, contact me. We'll work out an extension that will support you but also keep you on track for success.
⭐If something isn't working or you just can't figure something out, post a message in our Q&A Discussion. There's a lot of knowledge among our group – let's tap into it! Technology can be frustrating at times so step away if you feel tension rising. :)
