Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF)
About SURF
Welcome to the 2020 California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF) website. This faculty-mentored student research program provides students an eight-week experience over the summer to hone their research skills while also learning about scholarly activities taking place across disciplines. This year, we had 30 students participating in the program who were selected from nearly 200 applicants (largest to date!).
In addition to engaging in disciplinary research, SURF students participated in an interdisciplinary research learning community designed to reinforce the interdisciplinary pillar of the university's mission. Furthermore, students learned about various resources on campus and beyond to help them realize their post-CI career and academic goals.
This summer, due the global COVID-19 pandemic, the SURF program transitioned to a completely virtual setting. Our dedicated faculty worked tirelessly to adapt their research projects to a remote environment. We are extremely appreciative of our dedicated faculty and their commitment to undergraduate research. We also commend the passion, grit, and curiosity of our SURF students as they jumped right in to engage in their respective research projects.
