Dear Bradbury Families,
It has been a bustling and energetic week across our school! We were delighted to welcome parents to our very first year group assembly of the year with Year 4 and their inspiring presentation celebrating their recent unit of inquiry, Who We Are, on body systems.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 students embarked on our first residential trip of the year at Treasure Island. A group of very excited students set off on Wednesday morning, and they returned with slightly less energy but much bigger smiles and unforgettable memories!
These experiences are at the heart of a Bradbury education. Alongside strong academic foundations, our camps in Years 4, 5, and 6 offer opportunities to nurture the whole child that can’t be experienced in a school setting and are an expected part of our curriculum. Camps help students develop physically, socially, and emotionally. They learn to challenge themselves, build independence, solve problems, take responsibility for their belongings, and thrive as part of a team.
We also love giving our students varied platforms for expression, whether through performance, public speaking, drama, or teamwork. Our sporting opportunities build physical skills while teaching valuable life lessons in perseverance, teamwork, resilience, and celebrating progress. By offering a rich breadth of opportunities, we encourage every child to discover their unique passions and interests. Visiting classes this week, I saw these diverse experiences come to life as children shared their learning in many different ways, whether it was turning big numbers into words, models, and digits in Year 3, explaining their thinking behind the linocut designs in Year 6, and developing vocabulary through role-play in Year 1.
This is also why our six units of inquiry across the year span diverse disciplines, sparking curiosity and helping children see where their talents lie and what makes them curious to know more about. For instance, How We Express Ourselves invites creative exploration through the arts, How the World Works opens doors to scientific discovery, and Where We Are in Time and Place can provide a rich history and geography lens.
While primary school is an essential time for mastering reading, writing, and mathematics, it is equally about creating joyful memories, exploring new places, and being inspired by the world and people around us.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and for trusting us with the privilege of guiding your children through these formative years, filled with learning, laughter, and lifelong memories.
Warm wishes,
Skye Jeynes

This week, Bradbury School joins millions of students, conservationists, and changemakers around the globe to celebrate CNN’s Call to Earth Day.
The day included:
Theme: "Think Blue" — focusing on the vital role of our oceans, local waterways, and marine ecosystems.
Action Day: Students were invited to wear blue clothing to show solidarity for global conservation efforts.
Community Connection: Families are encouraged to take part in local action—such as neighborhood cleanups or harbor restoration—and share their efforts using.
Why Taking Action Matters in a PYP School
At Bradbury, environmental events like Call to Earth Day are more than just one-off celebrations—they are an essential component of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework.
Student Agency & Ownership
In a PYP school, learning extends beyond the classroom walls. When students initiate action—whether by organising a school waste audit, reducing single-use plastics, or advocating for clean oceans—they exercise genuine student agency. They realise that their voices, choices, and efforts matter today, not just in the future.
Making Inquiry Real
The core of the PYP is inquiry-based learning. Connecting global initiatives like Call to Earth Day directly to our local context in Hong Kong gives real-world meaning to central ideas in Units of Inquiry (such as ecosystems, human impact, and sharing the planet).
Developing the IB Learner Profile
Taking action directly cultivates key attributes of the IB Learner Profile:
Caring:
Showing empathy toward the natural world and fellow living organisms.
Reflective:
Considering how individual habits impact global environments.
Principled:
Taking responsibility for sustainable practices within our immediate community.
Building Global Citizenship & Local Impact
By participating alongside schools worldwide, our learners understand that global challenges require collective action. Engaging in local environmental efforts helps students see that small, everyday habits create a lasting impact on our local environment and global planet.
Year 4 shared their learning about Body systems with parents today in an assembly. This unit falls under the Transdisciplinary Theme of 'Who We Are', focusing on physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health and well-being, as well as learning and growing. The Central Idea, "The choices we make affect how our body systems function and work together," guided the students' inquiry. Through research and collaborative work with the PE department, students have explored how our body systems function and connect. Applying their new knowledge, students then teamed up with Mr Allan in the Shed to design and create interactive Makey-Makey posters. The Year 4 students showed fantastic confidence through singing, dancing, and presenting.
Year 5 camp on the beach at Pui O was an adventure filled with bravery, kindness and plenty of laughs! From coasteering and surfing to sleeping in tents, students embraced new challenges and developed their self-management skills. They encouraged one another, showed kindness and discovered just how brave they could be. Visits from the local buffalo added to the excitement, making camp a memorable experience full of fun, friendship and shared achievements.
Year 2 students have been focusing on how to "Make a New Friend." We delved into the heartwarming story How to Grow a Friend, and inspired by the book, the children collaboratively planted seeds.
This activity symbolised the careful nurturing required for new and developing friendships, which we hope will continue to blossom over time. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to form new connections, practice introducing themselves, and thoughtfully use their collection of insightful questions.
In The Shed with Mr Allan, students have been exploring Serious Lego play. Students creatively explored how to express various emotions using Lego. They imaginatively crafted detailed representations of happiness, kindness, family and friendship.
Bradbury’s swimmers enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at the recent DBIS swim meet, competing against other schools against a stunning backdrop of the Hong Kong skyline. Students challenged themselves, stepped beyond their comfort zones and represented the school with enthusiasm and determination.
Congratulations to all our swimmers, with special recognition for Hannah and Julius on their overall placings:
Hannah Tai (6V)
- Butterfly: 3rd
- Individual Medley: 3rd
- Backstroke: 2nd
Julius Tan (6V)
- Freestyle: 4th
- Backstroke: 3rd
A legendary mention goes to Keuno (6L), our ultimate cheerleader! Alongside competing in five races, he enthusiastically cheered on his teammates, offered congratulatory high-fives and stayed to support the girls’ relay team until they finished. His encouragement and sportsmanship were a real highlight of the afternoon - a wonderful example of what it means to be part of Team Bradbury.
Well done to every swimmer for their effort, determination and support for one another, and thank you to our families for supporting their participation.

The outreach team will visit our school on Saturday, October 31, 2026, to administer the seasonal influenza vaccine to students.
Key Flu Vaccine FAQs
1. When should I get vaccinated?
October–November is optimal. It takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop, so getting vaccinated before the main flu season begins provides the best protection.
2. Is it necessary to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza every year?
Seasonal influenza vaccination requires annual administration. Evidence on repeated influenza vaccination shows that vaccination in the current and prior season provides better protection than no vaccination or being vaccinated in the prior season only. Circulating flu strains change over time, so the vaccine composition is updated each year to match these current strains.
3. How many doses of seasonal influenza vaccine will children need?
Children under 9 who have never received any seasonal influenza vaccination: 2 doses given at least 4 weeks (28 days) apart. Children under 9 who have had a flu shot before: 1 dose. Anyone aged 9 and older: 1 dose per influenza season.
4. How much protection does the seasonal influenza vaccine provide?
When the vaccine strains closely match the circulating flu viruses, the vaccine reduces the overall risk of flu illness by 40% to 60%.
We are delighted to share the news that Zion's painting, The Superhero who Spilt the Milk, won the Gold Award in the London Youth Art Competition 2026!
This painting is inspired by one of his favourite superhero characters, Captain America – a cat in the costume of Captain America spilt the milk on the table. In the words of Zion, “sometimes a superhero is also as clumsy as a kid like me!”. His painting will be exhibited in the Iconic Images Gallery in London this November.
