Dear Bradbury families,
Today’s assembly was a wonderful celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival! You may have seen our giant light-up bunny holding the moon at the front entrance. It was a huge hit and provided so many wonderful photo opportunities for families. During assembly, we also learned about how different cultures around the world celebrate the mid-autumn moon and harvest. From Thanksgiving in North America to Chuseok in South Korea and Tsukimi in Japan, it was fascinating to compare traditions. Be sure to ask your children which celebrations they found most interesting!
At Bradbury, we take great pride in our student leadership opportunities. This week, we are excited to highlight two fantastic roles your child might be interested in now or in the future.
First, applications for class student leader roles opened this week! The application and presentation process is a truly valuable learning experience, giving students the chance to reflect on their strengths, build public speaking confidence, and practice real-world skills. While every applicant hopes to be selected, navigating the experience, including any setbacks, helps build emotional resilience and a growth mindset within a supportive environment. It also encourages students to develop empathy and sportsmanship as they learn to cheer on their peers and grow from feedback. Please check out the Curriculum section below for more details from Ms Bremner on how you can support your child in Years 3-6 throughout this process.
Our student tour guides have also been hard at work as prospective parents and kindergarten families explore primary school options. Being a tour guide is a wonderful responsibility: our students answer questions and independently share what makes Bradbury so special. To prepare, these dedicated leaders give up their lunchtimes for training sessions with Ms Bremner, Ms Ferrari, and our admissions officer, Ms Fung. They do an extraordinary job serving as the face and voice of our school!
We wish you and your family a very happy, healthy, and restful Mid-Autumn Festival, and we look forward to hearing all about the students' festivities next week.
Warm wishes,
Skye Jeynes

At Bradbury School, we view student leadership as an essential bridge for developing principled action, agency, and real-world skills within our Primary Years Programme (PYP). Student leaders serve as a vital link between their classmates, teachers, and school leadership—helping to guide positive change, lead hands-on projects, and amplify student voice across our community.
To apply for a class leadership role, students in Years 3-6 are invited to take part in a Creative Leadership Challenge. They will prepare a short presentation in a format of their choice (such as a brief talk, skit, poem, story, or slideshow) to share with their peers. In their presentation, students will explain what leadership means to them, reflect on 2–3 key IB Learner Profile attributes or Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills they demonstrate, and present a practical action idea to make Bradbury an even better place. Classmates and teachers will evaluate presentations using a student-friendly SOLO Taxonomy rubric, focusing on constructive peer feedback. This will take place this week and next week. Students in Years 1 and 2 are nominated based on their willingness to help and demonstration of the learner probile attributes.
There will be two student leaders per class will be selected. We encourage you to talk with your child about what leadership means to them, help them brainstorm their action ideas, and support them as they prepare their creative presentations if they wish to be a school leader.
Once all the leaders are selected, they will take part in various school initiatives.
Over the past two weeks, our Y1-Y6 students joyfully celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with immersive cultural activities. A special highlight was a hands-on culinary experience for our Year 3 students, who made homemade mooncakes, and Year 4 students, who made the traditional Osmanthus Jelly (桂花糕). This delicious jelly is a festive staple symbolising good luck and family reunion (吉祥如意與團圓), traditionally enjoyed while admiring the moon during the 8th lunar month. Across the other year groups, students crafted Jade Rabbit headbands (Y1) and colourful lanterns (Y4), explored traditional stories (Y2), rotated through paper-cutting, moon-gazing, lantern making and Chinese musical instruments (Y5), and created exquisite lacquer fans (Y6). To complete the celebrations, students brought the festival to life by beautifully decorating our lobby with paper fans and paper mooncakes. It was a wonderful fortnight of learning and festive cheer—we wish everyone a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
Last Friday, September 18th, our students participated in an insightful assembly led by our Educational Technologies Lead Teacher, Mr Steven Allan. The session focused on the critical topics of digital safety, online conduct, and technology-assisted relationships, empowering our students with the knowledge to make smart, safe, and respectful choices online.
We are excited to highlight our Good Morning Club! This initiative provides our students with a warm and positive morning check-in before classes begin. By focusing on connection, the club supports nurturing relationships between peers and staff, helping to ensure that every student enjoys a calm, grounded, and happy start to their day.
Over the next three weeks, Bradbury School is collecting food to donate to individuals and families living in poverty. Giving back is a core part of our community spirit, and we would love your support to make this drive a success.
To ensure a helpful variety of supplies are donated, we are asking each year group to collect a specific food item:
Year 1: Cup noodles
Year 2: Oats
Year 3: Canned fish and meat
Year 4: Pasta
Year 5: Canned vegetables
Year 6: Rice (small bags)
Please drop all donations off at the school office. Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping our students learn the value of supporting our wider community. The last day for food collection will be Friday 16th October.
On Monday, our PE department hosted a collaborative professional development session for staff, focused around the key resource Beyond the Physical. This will support students skills and increases agency within our class PE sessions as students are empowered to adapt and modify learning as well as build relationships, thinking skills and physical competence.
Join us in the Shed (Wednesday 30th September - 5pm) for the 1st of our Parent Workshops this year focusing on Digital Safety.
In today's connected world, children interact with digital platforms like Roblox, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Discord, and Messenger at increasingly younger ages. Join us for an essential parent information session focused on digital safety, online conduct, and technology-assisted relationships.
A major theme of the evening is shifting our parental approach so children feel safe opening up. We will discuss how our reactions as parents can bridge this gap, moving away from punitive responses so children feel empowered to talk with us about age-appropriate risks and come forward when things go wrong.
Finally, you will leave with practical skills and healthy digital habits to protect your family. We will cover concrete preventative measures, critical reactive steps, and how to build long-term healthy habits through weekly digital check-ins and creating a balanced family media plan.

The outreach team will visit our school on Saturday, October 31, 2026, to administer the seasonal influenza vaccine to students.
Key Flu Vaccine FAQs
1. When should I get vaccinated?
October–November is the best time to get vaccinated. Antibodies take about two weeks to develop, so aim for at least two weeks before the flu season starts.
2. How long does the protection of seasonal influenza vaccine last? Is it necessary to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza every year?
Seasonal influenza vaccination requires annual administration. Evidence on repeated influenza vaccination shows that vaccination in the current and prior season provides better protection than no vaccination or being vaccinated in the prior season only. Furthermore, the circulating seasonal influenza strains may change from time to time and the vaccine composition is updated every year in accordance with the circulating strains to enhance protection.
