Dear Bradbury Families,
I hope you have all had a wonderful week and enjoyed time with family and friends together yesterday as part of the National Day. As I write this today, I can hear our students singing beautifully together in our Friday morning assembly and they are to be commended on always being a respectful audience. This week’s newsletter focuses on the many ways we are continuing to nurture and strengthen our vibrant Bradbury community and celebrate our shared history.
Take a look at our Human Library display in the foyer when you visit school next. You can stop and read all about our staff's hobbies and strengths. So many students have been stopping to look for their teachers and discovering surprising new facts! This display is a wonderful way to foster connection and get to know each other even better.
Another popular addition to our foyer is our History Wall. We have a wonderful archive of photos from over the years, and Jonathan Chong, our resources manager, has been curating a display of memories and special people throughout our history. These photos will be updated over time, so feel free to drop back in! Students have been delighted to recognise parts of the school in old photos and stand in the exact same spots. There have been some deep conversations about the concept of time and aging!
As part of our school priority on belonging and collective efficacy, we have been exploring our mission, vision, and values in depth, reflecting on what it truly means to be part of Bradbury. Our staff spent time defining these values and sharing the story behind our tree and mountains logo and our motto: "Inspiring minds, nurturing hearts, enriching tomorrow." We were even able to track down the original stained-glass tree window that inspired our logo, which is now proudly displayed in our staffroom, another meaningful example of honoring our heritage and strengthening our community connection.
Our community has come together in several other ways this week, including our first PTA event—a mahjong night! It was a fantastic evening, and it turns out some of our parents and staff take their mahjong very seriously! We also hosted a parent workshop in the Shed led by Mr. Steve Allan, supporting families as we navigate the digital world together. You can find more details about the workshop content further down in this newsletter.
Another example was our Y1 Parent Play morning last Thursday which had an excellent turn out. Parents started in the hall with a play presentation by Jo Ferrari about why play is so important for child development and learning. Then parents joined their children in the Y1 play spaces and classrooms to experience play in action. Everyone had a great time.
Our popular school tours also took place this week, offering another wonderful opportunity to bring our community together and highlight everything we are so proud of here at Bradbury.
Together, each of these moments reminds us that our strength lies in our connections, and we are grateful to be part of a vibrant, supportive community with you all.
Warm wishes,
Skye Jeynes

In the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), Physical Education (PE) is designed to help children develop healthy bodies, confident minds, and strong social skills. PE learning happens in two complementary ways:
integrated units, where physical activities connect directly to a year group’s Unit of Inquiry (UOI)—such as exploring how the human body works in Year 4 —and stand-alone PE units which focus specifically on
developing essential movement skills, sports techniques, and individual fitness.
Beyond weekly PE classes, specialised programmes like swimming instruction, sports events, and outdoor school camps extend learning into authentic, real-world environments. These experiences challenge
students to apply their physical skills in new contexts, build water safety, develop independence, and strengthen trust and teamwork away from the classroom.
Key Highlights for Parents:
Integrated Learning (Connected to UOI): PE teachers collaborate with classroom teachers so physical activities reinforce what students are learning in the classroom—like investigating healthy habits.
Stand-Alone Skill Building: Dedicated PE lessons ensure children master foundational physical skills—such as spatial awareness, throwing, catching, swimming techniques, and tactical game strategies.
Targeted Swimming Programmes: Build water safety, endurance, and stroke technique while instilling lifelong confidence and safety in aquatic environments.
Outdoor Camps & Experiential Learning: School trips and outdoor adventure camps offer real-world opportunities to practice resilience, risk-taking (IB Learner Profile attributes), show leadership, and be in nature.
Building Character & Teamwork: Uses group sports, team games, and outdoor challenges to teach communication, sportsmanship, and how to navigate emotions like disappointment and victory.
Encouraging Personal Growth: Helps students set individual goals, reflect on their physical development, and build lasting confidence to lead active, healthy lives.
Students also have the opportunity throughout the year to represent the school across a wide range of inter-school fixtures and ESF-wide tournaments, competing in core sports such as tag rugby, football, netball, basketball, hockey, cross country running, table tennis, swimming, and biathlon.
Last Thursday, Year 1 parents visited Bradbury School to engage in the Year 1 Play Morning. It was wonderful to see parents get right down on the floor to connect with their children at eye level. By stepping into roles like the 'Narrator,' 'Scaffolder,' and 'Play Partner,' parents actively engaged in the meaningful learning that takes place when children play. From building towers to diving into dramatic play, the parents' active involvement validated for the students that their play is important, valuable, and deeply respected. The morning was filled with laughter, shared discovery, and special moments of connection.
The event gave Year 1 families a first-hand look at how play operates as a powerful vehicle for inquiry within the IB Primary Years Programme. As highlighted during the presentation, these joyful interactions do vital developmental work—expanding vocabulary, building cognitive architecture, and nurturing essential social-emotional skills like resilience and negotiation. Whether introducing a subtle challenge to a building activity or following a child's lead in a pretend scenario, parents helped foster their children's innate agency and independence. The school extends its sincere thanks to the Year 1 parents for putting their phones away, embracing the wonderful "mess" of exploration, and partnering with staff to celebrate the profound learning that happens through play.
On Wednesday evening, parents and teachers gathered in the Shed to discuss the growing dangers and challenges surrounding technology and social connections that our children increasingly face. This was the first in a series of talks this year which aim to raise knowledge and awareness of these challenging issues that we all face.
A key takeaway for many parents was the work being done by Look Up Hong Kong (https://www.lookup.hk/ ) in protecting the mental and physical wellbeing of our children by delaying access to smartphones and social media.
For those of you who were unable to make the talk, there is a short catch-up video available here. https://canva.link/p60uogbqim87hmk
Our next talk will take place on Wednesday 18th November at 5pm. Parking will be available at school. During this session, we will be looking specifically at the role that technology is playing with ours and our children's health and wellbeing.
Over the next three weeks, Bradbury School is collecting food to donate to individuals and families living in poverty. Giving back is a core part of our community spirit, and we would love your support to make this drive a success.
To ensure a helpful variety of supplies are donated, we are asking each year group to collect a specific food item:
Year 1: Cup noodles
Year 2: Oats
Year 3: Canned fish and meat
Year 4: Pasta
Year 5: Canned vegetables
Year 6: Rice (small bags)
Please drop all donations off at the school office. Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping our students learn the value of supporting our wider community. The last day for food collection will be Friday 16th October.
A Special Thank You!
We would like to give a huge shout-out to one of our wonderful parents, Jennifer, who has already kicked off our World Food Day Collection Drive! Jennifer generously arranged for pasta to be delivered straight to our school reception. Thank you, Jennifer, for your fantastic support and community spirit!
Our Bradbury Run Club meets every Thursday bright and early at 7:00am.
It is a brilliant mix of fun speed games, agility challenges and endurance-building running—helping children develop confidence and fitness l alongside their school mates.
Check out the video to see Run Club in action. The exhausted faces say it all: these runners work incredibly hard, but they have a huge amount of fun too!
Big thanks to Ms Bremner & Ms Leonard for all their support and encouragement.

The outreach team will visit our school on Saturday, October 31, 2026, to administer the seasonal influenza vaccine to students.
Key Flu Vaccine FAQs
1. When should I get vaccinated?
October–November is optimal. It takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop, so getting vaccinated before the main flu season begins provides the best protection.
2. Is it necessary to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza every year?
Seasonal influenza vaccination requires annual administration. Evidence on repeated influenza vaccination shows that vaccination in the current and prior season provides better protection than no vaccination or being vaccinated in the prior season only. Circulating flu strains change over time, so the vaccine composition is updated each year to match these current strains.
3. How many doses of seasonal influenza vaccine will children need?
Children under 9 who have never received any seasonal influenza vaccination: 2 doses given at least 4 weeks (28 days) apart. Children under 9 who have had a flu shot before: 1 dose. Anyone aged 9 and older: 1 dose per influenza season.
4. How much protection does the seasonal influenza vaccine provide?
When the vaccine strains closely match the circulating flu viruses, the vaccine reduces the overall risk of flu illness by 40% to 60%.
