I desire to build a classroom environment where students feel valued, respected, heard, and that they belong.
I strive to develop a cooperative and collaborative learning environment built on empathy and trust.
I am dedicated to maintaining high behavioral and academic expectations for all students.
I am committed to communicating the why to better develop student autonomy and responsibility, encouraging student choice along with guided scaffolding and support.
I prefer focusing on what students are to do rather than what not to do. Feedback will be specific, immediate, and consistent in response to both positive and negative behavior.
Daily Practices:
Greeting each of my students by name every morning as they enter the classroom.
A morning meeting where I am able to check in with each of my students through a Kagan cooperative learning structure.
Repetition and practice of attention getters/management strategies until all students demonstrate appropriate behavior.
Weekly Practices:
Specific SEL lessons and discussions on student responsibility, choice, emotional intelligence, growth mindset, etc.
Class Jobs where each student has a rotating weekly job that helps the classroom community (i.e. line leader, messenger, time keeper, lunch count, etc.)
Monthly Practices:
Class Meetings that focus on the glows and grows of behavior as a class.
Yearly Practices:
Anchor charts for classroom expectations, goals, and values.
Team seating in the arrangement of 4 desks per table group in order to incorporate various Kagan cooperative learning structures and activities.
