Who is in the story (characters)
Where and when it happens (setting)

Establishes the setting (where
and when)
Hooks the reader's attention

Meet the characters:
Every story needs people (or animals)
who do things.
Think about:
What is your character's name?
What do they look like?
What do they like or want?
Show the setting:
Where and when does your story take place?
Describe in detail:
Inside or outside?
Day or night?
Cold or hot?
What is happening at the start?
Now that we know the characters and setting, what's going on?
Start your story with an action, dialogue, question,
setting, or character introduction:
"Jake was kicking the ball when..."
"Have you ever wondered?"
"The forest looked scary at night..."
