To clarify the change of accepting coursework from Albion Center at Idaho State University that was sent out from HR. Since the state is no longer accepting this for license renewal the district is following this guidance and will also not accept it for license renewal or SALARY PLACEMENT (MA, MA+15, MA+30)
Staff who have submitted coursework from Idaho State University have already been placed on a salary column advancement for 2025-2026 school year.
If you are currently enrolled (fall or spring semester) you will be granted the graduate credit hours earned for the purpose of salary placement for 2026-2027 only. Going forward this will not be accepted for license renewal or salary placement.
PLEASE if you are currently enrolled in Idaho State University email Kim Prewitt- Human Resources prewitt_k@my.westcler.org
to let her know that you are currently enrolled and plan to use for salary placement for the 2026-2027 school year.
November 03, 2025 FROM OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE
The State Board of Education’s online application system opened November 1 for renewal of educator licenses that expire June 30, 2026. Educators who have met renewal requirements can avoid the summer rush and longer processing times by submitting their online applications now. Review the following tips to ensure a smooth application process.
Educators must complete all renewal requirements before submitting their online applications to renew or align their licenses. Additionally, educators must complete all limitations listed on their licenses before they may renew or advance them even if they are renewing through their local professional development committees. Please see the Renew a License webpage for links to licensure requirements. Other helpful webpages include:
Please note that effective October 10, 2025, the State Board of Education no longer accepts renewal coursework completed through the Albion Center at Idaho State University from educators renewing directly through the Board for licensure renewal.
Educators must have an OHID account to access the online licensure application. Educators who previously set up an account but do not remember their passwords should go to the OHID portal and use the “Forgot your OHID or password?” link located in the sign-in box. Applicants should not create a second OHID account even if they changed their names since first establishing their accounts. See the Online CORE License System FAQs webpage for more information.
Those who hold an active Ohio educator license, certificate, or permit must submit FBI background checks every five years. Out-of-state applicants also need to submit BCI background checks. See the Background Checks webpage for additional information regarding background check requirements to maintain a license.
Ohio waives the fees for any educator license, permit or certificate for applicants who are veterans with honorable discharges or current service members of all branches of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves. Spouses of active-duty service members also may receive a license free of charge. Applicants must upload documentation to verify their eligibility with their online licensure application. Learn more about this and other programs to support Ohio’s military families.
To apply for a license:
Log in to your OHID account.
Click Educator Licensure and Records (CORE).
Select the action (Renew, Align, Advance, or Transition) to the right of your license and complete the online application from your CORE Dashboard.
See the Online CORE License System FAQs webpage for complete instructions and the CORE User Manual. Direct questions to educator.licensure@sboe.ohio.gov.
Updated November 14, 2025
Educators may choose to convert to the new Elementary and Middle School (PK-8) license if their 5-Year Professional Ohio teaching license is currently expiring or expired, and they have:
At least one of the grade bands of the P-8 license in their currently expiring or expired professional teaching license,
Completed all renewal requirements (educators converting a Lead Professional or Senior Professional teaching license must meet renewal requirements for their license type),
Completed all coursework limitations listed on the license to be converted,
Completed all reading and phonics coursework required for the new PK-8 license, AND
Completed all exam requirements for the new PK-8.
This message is to clarify exam requirements for educators converting their license to the new Elementary and Middle School (P-8) license and supersedes previously released information. Educators are required to take and pass both an elementary education content area and the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE)190 Foundations of Reading exams.
Educators who have already passed the previous Foundations of Reading OAE 090 exam are not required to take the OAE 190.
Educators who have already passed the required general elementary content exam(s) for (and have been issued) the Primary (PK-5), Kindergarten-Elementary (K-8), or Elementary (1-8) licenses or 4-5 Early Childhood Generalist or 4-6 Middle Childhood Generalist endorsements are not required to take the current OAE 055 for the Elementary and Middle School license.
Educators who need the elementary education content exam to convert their license to the new Elementary and Middle School (P-8) license may take and pass either the OAE 055 or both the OAE 018 and 019 until the new P-8 exam is available. Note that a new content exam for the Elementary and Middle School license is anticipated for early 2027.
STEPS FOR LICENSE RENEWAL THROUGH THE WEST CLERMONT LPDC
Step 1: License is issued - Within 30 days of a license being issued, the license holder must create an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and submit the completed plan online to the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) for approval. An educator MUST have a current, approved IPDP on file with the LPDC before earning credits/contact hours/CEUs that qualify for license renewal . Following LPDC review, the educator will receive an email that will either notify the educator that the IPDP has been approved or is not approved. The educator should then revise and resubmit the IPDP.
Step 2: During the years of the approved IPDP - Engage in pre-approved, credit-earning professional development activities that are related to your IPDP. College credit must be earned at an accredited university or institution. All activities other than West Clermont professional development and not listed on the West Clermont Activity Guide must be submitted online for prior approval by the LPDC. See the West Clermont LPDC Activity Guide for a list of possible professional development options and maximum hours per renewal cycle. Certificates from West Clermont professional development may be added to their professional development google folder periodically or all together when preparing for license renewal. West Clermont professional development certificates will automatically be added to google folder upon completion of the professional development form at the conclusion of the professional development.
Step 3: One year prior to license expiration - Ensure that credit-earning professional development amounting to 6 semester hours (equivalent to 180 contact hours, 18 CEUs, or a combination of these - see conversion chart) has been completed by February 1 of the year the license expires. Communicate your progress to the LPDC in person or via email.
Step 4: By March 1 of license expiration year - ALL original documentation must be submitted to the LPDC by uploading to your google folder or sending to Kim Prewitt at the DO to be added to your LPDC folder. Keep a copy of all documents. Transcripts must be official, original documents or scanned or e-transcripts. All documentation (transcripts, certificates, etc.) must be received by the LPDC by March 1.
Step 5: Complete Background Check - Check with the district office to have a background check completed, if necessary. The expiration of a background check may or may not correlate with your license expiration date.
Step 6: Between January 1- and no later than May 1 of license expiration year - Apply through the OH-ID account (link from the Ohio Department of Education website) to apply to have the license renewed. This is when the fee will be paid. The license renewal application will be approved by the LPDC upon verification of all documentation. The educator will receive an email when the process is complete and the license is issued.
Step 7: When the new license is issued - Upon renewal of the 5-year license, an educator's IPDP also expires. The renewal process repeats, and the educator must then create a new IPDP within 30 days. An educator MUST have a current, approved IPDP on file with the LPDC before earning credits/contact hours/CEUs that qualify for license renewal .
Licensure Conversion Option Available for Educators at Renewal
Ohio educators whose 5-Year Professional teaching licenses (including Lead Professional and Senior Professional) are eligible for renewal will soon have the option to convert to the new Elementary and Middle School (PK-8) license or an Adolescence to Young Adult (7-12) license. Exam and coursework requirements are available on the Licensure Conversion webpage. Note that the online application for licensure conversion is expected to be available in CORE in the next week.
Starting January 1, 2025, the licensing authority for Licensed School Psychologists in Ohio will shift from the School Board of Education of Ohio to the Ohio Board of Psychology. This change, mandated by House Bill 509, means that the Ohio Board of Psychology will be responsible for issuing and renewing licenses for school psychologists.
